    Hello,

Does anybody knows this. I got hired a month ago, and at that time i had to sign a form that i had to pay the drugtest, if i would leave the company within six months. Its about $150. And i am wondering if a company is allowed to do that.

That doesn't sound right. Are you signing some kind of contract with the company? Company drivers should not be responsible for that.

Sounds about right to me. You pass and stay on they pay. You flunk or leave you pay.

By law...no. The company had you sign a "contract agreement" in regards to the repayment of money?
Nice try. The labour board will most likely overturn their contract and void it. You signed under "duress" and without signing the company would not have hired you,so really you had little choice but to sign or waive the employment offer. You would have a legitimate argument before the labour board.

$150 for a drug test is too much, more like $75-$100 max.
The drug test is their responsibility,we don't require one to run in Canada. This is strictly an American requirement.
Any company that tells you that you are paying for the drug test should be avoided(eventually they'll make you pay for other things too).

Ask them this and see what their answer is "After six months of employment will you reimburse me for my criminal record search and abstracts?". Seems like a fair question.

    3noses Thanks this.

There are many companies that have these as policies. In the oil patch, when you start with a company, you have to go through a series of tests to get your cards in Confined Spaces, TDG, etc. Many companies have the policy that if you decide to leave within 3 months you have to reimburse them for the testing. If they fire you, you don't have to pay them back. My suggestion is to stay for 6 months. If they cause undue duress, cite that a the reason you're leaving, and that if they try to charge you for the testing, you'll notify the labour board.

TDG is the companies duty to issue and is not a billable test to the driver. Since the tests have such a wide range and training level is up to the company.

Confined spaces and some others are issued by an outside company and will stay with the driver when they move to another job. TDG has to be redone by the new company every time the driver changes to a new company. I still have multiple TDG cards from different companies. None are valid if I am not working for the company that issued it.
