Lupe, if you started the process now, you might get to pilot a ship on your own around 2025. Unless it's the water taxi gig between casinos in Laughlin. I always say, "if you can dream it, you can do it".

why not try and go for a pilot instead?
ship drivers are few and far between--probabely very hard to work your way up that high
but aircraft drivers--lots more of them---whats the worst that could happen --try it out

just cause the the main big 2 or 3 airlines are messed up--doesnt mean they all are
there are still a few jobs for pilots---just like there is still A PILE of jobs for drivers
maybe a lot of bottom feeders--but still--they are jobs if that is what you want

I've been curious about Merchant Marine jobs to but the academy I looked at sounded crazy expensive.

I've also considered HVAC training. This can be applied to maintaining refrigerated cargo to get on with a freighter.

i can only imagine that being an HVAC mechanic on dry land would be better paying, better food, better sleep, better benefits, better home time, better lifestyle, then being on a ship for weeks at a time.....and facing sinking in stormy weather.....:biggrin_2551:
