You can pick up a 102" whip at Rat Shack $19.95. And they are of better quality than MFJ. And no shipping charges.

I ended up ordering a Wilson 2000, will do the job I need it to and I figured Gramps would be happy I went with it. I'll throw a picture up when I get it all done.

    Thanks,
    -Rob

Yeah but then you have to run the 6 inch barrel spring which is known to send the SWR's all over the place when it flexes.

And how is it better than an MFJ?

Some of you don't like MFJ...why not? I had one of their 108 whips and it was a great antenna. Heck I liked it better than my 102 whip.

234/27.185= 103.25 inches . by the time you add in your stud on the mount you will be there a 6 inch spring and a 1o2 whip will make you too long.

CB radios give them communications with a lot of other motorist, If I were in the escort business I would invest in a couple of gmrs/family band radio also, because there are time when you would want communications not going threw the local cb'ers. But then you cellular as a option.

Handheld radios talking 15 to 20 miles, I would like to know what your using, this is not normal coverage for a 5 watt vhf radio. A mile a watt (maximum) is normal unless repeaters are involved or one of you are a lot higher in elevation than the other.

If they are High power mobiles they may get 20 mile flat land coverage. Uhf coverage is even worse.

A 5 watt cb radio would have a larger affective range than a 5 watt vhf or 4 watt uhf without repeaters.

The one time I tried omitting the 6 inch spring from my 102 it sent the SWR's thru the roof. Reinstalled it and all was fine. The spring is an essential part of the 102 unless you're running on the 10 meter band.

Well the Cobra 50th anniversary radio is out of stock everywhere except at some Iowa 80 truck stops and they won't ship it to me. They are all on backorder until the new year and I think they aren't going to be the Limited Edition version then.

So, what would everyone recommend with a cap of $150.

    Thanks a lot,

    -Rob

Might want to check your radio once you get it. It doesn't look like they do the 11 meter conversion so in other words it won't work on the CB bands until converted.
