yes $10.00 an hour is laughable but if they paid the drivers of these trucks any more money the assistant operator and then the chief operator would also want more money.
from what i heard it was always cheaper to go out and hire another employee even though the cost to hire a new person statred around $10,000.00.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Itwould sure be something different, any scales on the tracks??
-
no mater what railroad your truck test on-(norfolk southern canadian national or a shortline rail road) the driver is only going to be paid $10.00 per hour.
if you go across the border into canada or mexico (on a rail bound car or high rail truck) the pay does not go up one penny. -
Okay I'm actually curious about this. Partly I suppose for the trade off of sleeping in a Hotel instead of a truck cab.
It sounds like the $147 is for meals and misc aside from the $10 per hour? So if you just live off the expense money out there the wages just get banked?
Do you guys also have a similar Hours of Service to work around? Do you work a particular shift? Sort of wondering how much time you have to use the hotel. If they're decent as you say I'd be interested in getting in treadmill time if they have a small gym room.
I'd like to know more about the trucks and available storage if I'm going to be lugging my belongings around. I do try to travel light though. Most things would be the basics plus my laptop and a few books.
For now I'm in a company called Hiner but starting to think I need to try something different. Also I'll admit HoS and E-logs are starting to aggravate me. -
video drome,
i will post more information later today about pay check and the per-dim payment.

video drome,
sperry is very picky about field employees having some type of direct depost set up for their bi-weekly payroll check.
as for per-diem check they would like that on direct deposit but it could be mailed to your home address as i did while i was employed by them back in 2005 and 2006.
you will have to up front all the money for your meals and any other expenses business related or not.
hotel rooms are paid for with a corporate lodging card and their is a list of approved hotels the crews are allowed to stay at.
you may spend one night at 1 hotel or several days and or the week-end at the same hotel and you may have to change hotels on a saturday or a sunday.
a cab ride was an expense for me several times you will fill out an expense report and send it to the office and they will put it on your per-diem check after it is approved by either the office manager or the office supervisor.
be aware that this could take up to seven weeks or longer for you to get your money so keep good records if you front money for anything for this company-(such as a gallon of washer fluid or a gallon of motor oil)
yes as a driver with sperry we had to follow the u.s. federal hours of service and keep an old fashioned paper log book plus an old fashioned dispatch and trip report.
don't know if sperry has gone to e-logs and i dont think they will until the state and or feds tell them they have to.
(thats one reason i am not working for them anymore plus the open heart surgery i had 1 year ago this month is another reason) -
Well it seems like it would be an advantage to use direct deposit and access your money with a debit card if you have to travel so much. Either for the regular wages or reimbursements.
But to clarify the weekly expenses you don't get any of that up front? Do you mail in or scan in(Transflo?) your receipts and just keep watching for the reimbursement?
Anyway I'm still trucking but later when I get a chance I'll look over Sperry's site some more. -
no sir you do not trans flo any receipts you mail in the expense receipt(s) on an expense form and the office will either approve it or deny it if approved it is added to your per-diem check.
i had my payroll check on direct depost along with the wife's payroll check but my per-diem check was a live check and i had it mailed to my home so the wife could put it into our savings account every other monday.
my first tour all my wife opened was my direct depost statements when i got home i had over $5,000.00 in per diem and expense live checks on my desk that she did not open for some reason or another.
my first tour i had an outrageous amount of out of poket expenses and it took me a while to see if i was re-paid for everything i shelled out of pocket for.
i left sperry on very acid terms on hours of service regulations and compliance with them.
plus i was sick of the 14 and 21 days of straight work that seem to happen at least once a month.
i also had some issues with some of the chief operators of these trucks thinking that my life was the truck and wanted me to work on it after the testing day was over and on the week-end.(can you say conflit with hos regs!)
had on co in kentucky call me at 06:00 a.m. on a saturday and he wanted me to wash and wax the truck in the hotel parking lot with the hotel's water supply and wated it done by noon took truck to blue beacon paid for it out of pocket and he threatened to write me up or doing so i told him to go ahead and write me up and i told him where to shove after he wrote me up.
interesting job and a very interesting way to get a paycheck but it had its moments where i was at my wits end i almost left the truck in saratoga springs new york and plattsburgh, new york and was going to ride a train home to memphis.
best wishes and good luck to you sir.
trans-flo sperry would look at you with the deer in the headlights look and ask what is that! -
Hmm.... sounds kind of crazy. I mean I've had crazy jobs but don't know what I'd do if someone told me to wash and wax a truck.
I wonder if I'd rather just be one of those people that transports train crews.
