Which is better?

Galaxy 959 come with SSB for the money maybe is the best choice.
But I like Cobra 29 LX LE better.

 

If your true needs are simple ? keep it that way, 29 Classics are hard to beat.

Packed with extra, not necessary, but really cool features, the Galaxy radios. If you use SSB, the 959 is great. If you dont, the 939 has an awesome Starlite faceplate, which makes nocturnal operation kinda fun.

Personally, I run the 29 LX LE, because it looks awesome and the 29 is a great performer. I drive a sand & gravel transfer dump, which requires a large amount of off road travel. Cobra's handle the rough ride better merely because they are on a narrower chassis, and the board does not flex as much as the wider radios and/or export chassis.

I love to talk SSB, but rarely find time while working. I run a SSB radio in my pickup for more casual conversation, but the in the rig I am perfectly happy with just AM.

Cobra 29 are more easly modified than any other radio. The Galaxy radios you speak of are not what i would call a true high powered export radio,like a galaxy 44,77,88 or 99.They are more like a Cobra 148 GTL. On the other hand if you get a Galaxy 959 ( one with the built in freq display) u get varable talk back and power and a better recive,things that you must add to a 29 but power wise,unmodified,they do about the same ammount of power. If, at a later date you think you may want a (big radio) then you should just buy a Connex 3300HP ($200.00) and be done with because after you spend all of the money that it takes to beaf up a 29,you will have spent about the same ammount if not more.
