Hello drivers. Im new to this forum. Im an experienced truck driver with 8-9 years of driving. I have not driven in three years and im looking to get back into it. Problem is, nearly all the companies that I call, want a year recent tractor trailer exp. I feel like a newbie. Some of these companies advertise that they hire new truck driver school graduates, but dont want to hire me. They dont even ask about my work record or MVR. Just say they need the recent experience. Im scratching my head over this one. I have a couple of possibilities. One with a small company, but no benefits at all. And only 30 cents per mile. The other, JB Hunt intermodal haha. Hmmm! Has JB Hunt gotten any better or not. The recruiter for JB said it was the best thing since sliced bread hehe. I know if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Anyway, Does anyone know of some good companies near Terre Haute, Indiana, that might hire someone like me? A company with good benefits and good hometime? Most of my experience is with tankers, dry and liquid. I also have experience with dry vans and a little with reefers. Any help would be a blessing. Looking forward to the open road again. Hopefully by the first of the year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year drivers. Godbless

    Welcome to the forum.
Do a bit of looking around and you'll discover your situation isn't unique at all. The key words are "refresher course".

IWX they would probably put you on team relay for a time, to get your experience back up. I think there closest yard to you is in Taylorsville or at least over that way. I would look till I found someone to put me on, I would not go back to school with your experience. They may put you on as a regional driver in that general area, running the mid west and east.

BigHands: Might find myself in the situation you've described further on down the road (ugh).
Anyway; I know of a driver w/ approx 35 yrs exp. He dropped out for 3 years, then found himself in the "retrain requirement" situation.
He ended up making a request to someone (in safety I believe). The request was; if his trainer approves him early to drive solo, the company would ok him a truck. I think he got the agreement w/ a 2 week re training minimum out of a potential 2 full months.
Needless to say, after 2 weeks the trainer recommended he drive solo, ... & he drove solo.
Also, he has a lot of years exp, impeccable driving record, well spoken & is a very likeable person.
He's based out of Columbus Ohio, & he got on w/ Crete Carrier Corp w/ the 2 weeks re training. He drove for Crete for 1 year. He wasn't happy w/ them (too many stories to list here), & now he's been w/ A.D. Transport Express (Canton MI) for approx 1/2 year. AD Transport requires that a driver been driving for at least 2 years w/o a long break. However; once again, he struck up a deal & got in w/ 1 year "re experience" w/ Crete.
I can contact him & find out more info if you'd like. "Hope this helps".
