Buying a truck.. Who should I lease on-to?

Most addictive disease known to man-trucking.

 

Your biggest problem is your lack of experience in the industry. I completely understand your frustrations with other people controling your income, and would encourage you to follow your plans. However, I suggest you wait anothe six months before doing it.

Any company that will be worth leasing your truck to is going to require at least 1 yr experience. And those that will hire you with less than a year are going to be the "Lease Purchase" carriers. STAY AWAY FROM ALL COMPANIES WITH A "FLEASE PURCHASE"!!!!!!

Grasshopper, you must be patient.

 

i just became an o/o last year. let me tell you its very hard, and it doesn't mean you wont be at a dock for hours anymore. It does mean if your truck needs an exhaust like mine did last week get ready to write a check for 3,000. It also means if any kind of illness or death in family keeps you from being able to work, the people who send the bills out don't care. Just something to think about.

 

At your age and experience don't expect to lease to a top quality carrier, the one's that will accept you will probably treat you just like the company you are working for,

But don't let me stop you, come on in the waters fine, but very deep, filled with sharks and you don't know how to swim.

 

this post's writer seems to value SECURITY in life, obviously being a O/O would not be his first choice as a career.

As a O/O i appreciate all the challenge's this life has to offer, and i feel i'm stronger for it.

 

well ive applied to Landstar, i pick up my 2005 freightliner on monday, have 2 more work options in the bag, however i feel i will do best with landstar, gonna do power only to start, then ill decide what trailer to buy, i suspect it will be a 53ft reefer, good luck to you, happy new year to all..............

 

Applied and accepted are two different things... I doubt Landstar will take you on...

 

Don't count on LS, in November they only leased 1 out of 100 that applied, usual average is 3 out of 100.Hope you make the cut.

 

This guys plans have failure written all over them... these folks who think this biz is all rosy are living in outer space...
