I was wondering if anyone has an idea about how long it takes to get a Mentor if I attend orientation in Phoenix next week. Recruiter said I could drive my car there so Im assuming Ill be going back home before I get a mentor. I am a smoker so dont know if that matters. Is there a chance I would get a mentor right after the 3 day orientation? Or do you generally have to go home (I live in Las Vegas) and wait for one to call you. I read a thread about a guy in Texas that has been waiting for four weeks for a mentor.![]()

Here is the rub. You can drive your car there if you want to avoid using a bus. Doesnt mean to go home cause your bored with waiting. Do you want a job driving a truck? How likely will they want to keep you if you cant wait?
With the 2 companies that I had worked for as well as other postings on this board. The most drivers whom dont go out on the road were the ones whom were to impatient to wait for a trainer.
This is not like a college course or a delivery. It has no "direct" time that you will get a trainer. You will get a trainer when the company can find you one. If it takes 2 weeks so be it. But if you drive home? Dont expect to get any trainer at all, in the companies eyes, you just wasted their time.
Smoker trainers I gather are more frequent than non smoker. -
Just got off phone with someone at Swift and they said I should EXPECT to get sent home after orientation. They will not pay for lodging for me to wait. They said it would take about a week after orientation to get a mentor.
So to the previous poster.. Just because I go home to wait doesnt mean I dont want to drive. -
Good luck

he wont have a dm, as a trainee. But the calling daily part works.

You have a DM as soon as you finish orientation.
I waited 4 days at home for a mentor.
Then the guy I got turned out to be on mentor suspension because the DMV didn't have his updated medical card info. I spent a day on his truck, without pay it turned out. The mac 27 was kicked back because of his suspension.
I was more upset because Anthony was a really cool guy. It seemed we would have got along great.
Then I waited another day for my current mentor, fearing the worst after lucking out with the first.
It worked out OK though, and I am doing very well with James. We have very few conflicts in personality and seem to work well together.
I have been on his truck for 2.5 weeks now. He had to get some home time for a family emergency, so we are home this weekend. -
