Happy New Year everyone! I got home last night around 10pm. My wife picked me up at my truck then we went home to watch the ball drop with our 2 Labs. They fell asleep before midnight and my wife and I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching Dick Clark, what a shame.
This had to be the toughest round I've done to date. I left the house about 11am Tuesday and drove over to the packing house in Belle Glade to check in and wait my turn to get my lettuce. As I pulled up I noticed about 15 trucks waiting and none at the loading dock. After staging my truck I went in to check in. I was told it would be sometime in the late afternoon to get loaded. Great, 32 miles from my house and I have to sit in this rat hole turning into a head of lettuce waiting to get loaded.
After parking about 10 more trucks pulled in. Now I'm sitting there with about 25 of my closest friends waiting. About 4pm I'm called over the CB to put it in door 7. Mind you, I was the first one called and the only one they loaded. I went in to sign my bills and the woman at the counter told me to wave to everyone as I was leaving. I told her absolutely not, that the rest of the drivers outside probably wanted to shoot me. I was leaving the gate at 5pm.
I loaded all my stuff into my truck the night before but realized I had left my Laptop at home. I had my wife meet me at the Home Depot by our house and got it from her, then it was onto Florence. I made it up to Kingsland Ga and went to bed. I slept like a log and woke up the next morning refreshed and raring to go, only problem was my clock told me I was still tired and had another 2 hours to go before I could legally move. The beauty of an electronic log.
I finally left and had an uneventful drive up to the truck rest area on 95 in Va. I had it planned where my 10 hours would be up at 5am and I would leave to beat the DC/Baltimore traffic. I arrived at 9am for my noon appt. and was empty by 10am. Louie had called and told me I would be heading back to Florida because all the regular coast trucks were in and they had to be moved first. I was told to bring the reefer trailer to the yard and pick up a dry van to bring over to Mcelhattan Pa for a drop and hook.
Gary was at the yard having a new starter put in so when I arrived we ordered some Chinese food for delivery and waited on his truck. He was headed to Orlando also but for Tuesday. I deliver on Monday and have already gotten my reload info. I p/u at the port in Jacksonville Monday and deliver in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. Then I was told it will be west coast from there.
I missed jrotra and his wife at the yard, they got dispatched early on Thursday and were headed to the house for the holiday. Oh well John, maybe next time. Be safe all, God BlessThe Challenger Thanks this. -
