    While the tax has to be paid quarterly many carriers deduct it monthly. They claim if the leassee leaves before the end of the quarter they are liable for the taxes accrued prior to the end of that quarter. I claim it is a scam to get interest free money for a few months.

    I agree.

    I also think it is wrong to not provide a detailed report showing exactly what the truck did.

    I suspect that countless O/O's couldn't cash flow the quarterly payment so it's easier for the carrier to do it on a monthly basis than listen to the belly aching at the end of the quarter.

    Isn't there a major O/O based fleet that does it by the trip OR used to do it by the trip?

    Landstar does mileage taxes by the trip.

    yeah I kept track of all my miles per state just in case anyway but just asked and yeah they pay the fuel tax so atleast there is something I don't have to pay
