Hey all looking for some advice other that isn't "your choice." Here is my deal. I have been working for a local government agency for the last 15 years were I had my CDL B to drive trucks. I recently lost my job in the Bay Area CA, due to budget cuts. I can't find a job to save my life. I have applied everywhere. Home Depot, Lowes, Pep Boys, etc...No luck. Since I have my CDL B I thought I'd go for my CDL A and get a job. Well as most of you know and I just found out you can't get a Job unless you have a minimum of 6 months verifiable experience and a CDL B doesnt cut it. Now I have pre-hire offers from Werner, Watkins Sheppard, GTI, and Swift, pending my graduation from truck school. I have to say that I'm scared sh$tlees because all of the negitive post I have read on here about those "kind" of companies. Any help good, bad or indifferent is appreciated.

Trust in God..All others pay cash:biggrin_25511:

Yes I have a wife and kids and no on the combo. Just Class B trucks. She already knows I'll be away from home for weeks at a time. But I need to provide for my family. This economy sucks! I'll search prime. Thx.

Maybe Gardner Trucking as well? Based out of Chino, CA, but have terminals in Lathrop and I believe in San Jose...may keep you closer to home.

Look through some of the threads on this 'newbie' forum... links are posted that have listings for folks with new licenses. There are names on the listings that aren't the 'mega carriers'. Maybe what you are looking for is one of the smaller companies... unfortunately I don't have that link avail - sorry...

your class a is not that hard to get just have to studyy for your written tests get your permit then go drive take your driving test and whammo you have a class a..

the deal with prime is that you will be lucky to get any home time while training.. swift imo has a great training facility in phx az, just ties you into a massive dollar amount contract. and you wont make near what you made in a govi. pos.. werner dont do it!!! unless it is something you absolutely have to do and there is no other alternative..
schneider is an ok company. dont know much about them other than my wife runs their eggs over all the time....:biggrin_25521:

what i can say is this if you can handle being out for at a min of 4-5 weeks away from the family for your training period. and want to learn the way of the road come to prime.. reefer we have the miles and freight personaly im always running and thats what you want for income i and my wife hardly set.. who knows after the chicks have grown up and flown the coop your wifey can drive fun fun.. good money there.. just fyi team driving is where its at... solo b4 the wife got on the truck and started driving i was mak''n about 1250 a week lease company will be a lil less than that but you aint got all the extra ccrap to deal with... now that the wifeys on the truck we make on average 3k a week unless of course we are at home twiddling our thumbs hahahaha..

ima runner and now that we are on e logs i have to run harder shorter.. lotta change goin onin the industry now we have a bunch of nazis runnin the country oh well i wont go there this isnt the political forum hahaha ne ways hope i helped a lil bit..
