Did they fell because they were pushed to hard? I know mine would do a little over 150 watts on SSB if i pushed it but i always kept it at around 100 watts and never had a problem. But i did get it from a 91 year old ham who hardly used it. Man i wish i still had it!
Here you go,my big radio!

Yep thats it people want 200 out of a 20 watt radio then bit** that the finals blew.
-
wow, i never saw such monster base stations!
-
MINE is average .....
It blows my mind to see what soem people run and how many $$$$$$$ they spend ....
A good base only needs to be one or two good radios made to cover what you are licensed ( or allowed ) to do. You don't need a 1,000 foot tower or a massive beam to work the world.
MOST hams I know spend under $1,000 on radios and under $200 on a antenna system This is the reason radios like the IC-718, IC-706, Ft-857 and FT-450 are such good sellers.
MIDRANGE stations you will find the FT-950, TS-2000 and the IC-7000 sell well they are a lot of radio in a small box.....
ANTENNAS .... You can buy a G5RV-JR dipole for $30 and cover most of the HF bands and 6 meters with a tuner or a DX-CC fan dipole for $150 and gain several "S" units over that G5RV ..... Verticals are the same I had good luck with the Hustler 4bvt and the hygain 12avq about $150 each .
Radio is anything else you can go bankrupt and still not have all the toys you want .....
It boils down to us boys have to have our toys .....Attached Files:

I guess I'd better not show you a pic of a friends radio (a converted 2 car garage) room then. He has fully restored Collins,Johnson's,Hummarlunds and such stacked floor to the ceiling front to back and side to side in his radio room....and that's not counting what he has in his house!
-
That makes a grown HAM cry
-
I cried when i saw it all myself.
-
MAYBE if I get a large cardboard sign and put WILL WORK FOR RADIOS in torn jeans and look dirty I could have a shack like that too
-
I tell you,That guy has worked hard, saved, bought and traded for years to get what he has! It really would blow your mind to see what he's got. And i dont mean just your run of the mill radios,he has some very high end and rare radios, especially when it comes to Collins.
I called him and asked if he would mind,he told me that since so many locals know my screen name on the net that he would rather i did not post up my pics here. He is afraid that someone would try and break end.....of corse his big roc would have something to say about that

I know what you mean i run An Ic718 and a henry 2kd5 and a good tuner into a home made die pole up about 40 ft got a grand total of 50 bucks in the antenna system that includes the pole and coax. I have made real good contacts all over the world with a good starter radio and simple system. Of course the mobile is alot different IC 706 with a 300 watt kit built amp into a Supper Hopper antenna 10-160 and then a Kenwood D710a for APRS and 2 meter. I am in the truck more then the house so thats where all the good stuff is.
