No, because it's missing some variables. Who pays for the license and insurance? If we don't include all of the costs, we're comparing apples and oranges.
No, what counts is that we're making money. If I were not making at least as much driving a truck as I did as a systems engineer, I would be thinking about going back to doing that (heaven forbid).
I hope that you are right, and our income is going to skyrocket after we pay off our truck, but I'm looking at the next couple of million miles as the big picture, and I can't see that the cost of leasing vs. financing makes all that much difference. No one is getting "fleeced" or paying twice what a truck is worth...that's all hogwash.

Well then....Carry on!

You are all blowing a bunch of figures around as if you are the only ones who have ever driven a truck before and that your figures are the only figures. We could sit here all day and night tossing figures around. I have been a lease operator for CRE for 6 months and I am telling you from first hand experience without the figures that IT IS NOT WORTH IT.
IF you choose to go ahead and lease a truck and run with one of these companies it is you who suffers not me. So therefore you can heed my warning or you can go ahead and attempt to make more than what I made (which in the end was less than min wage whilst running 6000 miles a week).
This is my figure:
GO AHEAD AND BE STUPID. -
Didn't he do this well enough on his own?
-
6000 miles a week? Solo driver? I'm not that stupid.otherhalftw Thanks this.
-
No way a solo can LEGALLY run 6000 miles a week! Even across I-80, or I-40 where one could do 70-75 mph all day...like back and forth across NE....averaging 70 driving 11 hours 7 days would amount to 5390 miles and then only leaving 3 hours total available for fuel/pre/post trips....not a chance!
If you do 13 hours everyday....at 70 in the 6 days [6 x 13 = 78] still only gets 5460...and now cut the 3 hours down to 2 for the required logging of fuel and inspections.
Nice try girl....but try giving that info to the new rookies at the West Valley Regional headquarters....someone there will help you sell your story!

Who ever said it was solo?
It was 6000 miles a week, not solo... I'm glad that you are not stupid -
Even at the minimum newbie wage...why do you think 3000 miles per driver (which is how you figure team/solo) how could you not be making a decent take home for a rookie?
As an OTR driver, you are setting yourself for a very depressed state by figuring the total hours away from home instead of the total hours actually working...there is a certain "mindset" that one must learn to adapt to when being an OTR driver. It isn't like a regular hourly job....sad but true! -
I gave an example of cost vs lease~ thats apples vs apples. If you wanna discuss all costs we can, then we must discuss income vs miles.
-
It's a futile effort...there's a "belief system" at work here, and once someone's on board with it, there's no logical argument that can overcome it.
Kudos to those who come here and lay the facts on the table about the bottom feeders, sleazy lease deals and other various schemes perpetrated by the crooks in this industry. Some of us are listening, and it will make a difference in where we end up down the line.
