So, went to the DMV today. They didn't have any paper copies of the CDL book for WA.

Also, went to the front desk to ask for info about CDL testing for the written, and driving exams.

    They had no clue. :biggrin_2555:

The DMV in Northwest WA no longer runs testing, nor offers training materials (like a paper copy of a CDL book that's updated with the new laws established during December regarding types of cargo distributions etc.) for a person to get his/her Class A, CDL.

I asked if any of them knew where I could get information for it, the people working there, had no idea at all.............

The one online was last updated in Feb of 2010. Doesn't have any of the new changes regarding some of the newer breaking systems (different types of the same things) nor the new laws about different cargo distributions for the type of cargo/variety in the trailer. From March 2010-Dec 2010, they made 23 alterations to the WA CDL book. Making parts of it obsolete, and some parts now illegal.

And the actual DMV office itself, didn't have any information at all. They aren't even allowed to do the written even. And had no idea where to go for any testing for either exams. DMV Offices according to the lady at the counter, are no longer "legal" to do testing of anything larger than 14ft long.

Sounds like you're going to have to go through a school up there.

Something doesn't sound right. You're in Everett? Sure you were at the Licensing office, not the vehicle registration office? In WA, it's the DOL (Department of Licensing), not the DMV.
I just picked up a copy of the Commercial Driver Guide yesterday from the office in Bellevue (BelRed Road and 140th). Also picked up the medical long form and a copy of my driving record abstract.
Make sure you're at the right office, but if you can't get help in Everett, then drive on down to Bellevue.

    LongRoadTrucker and Lilbit Thank this.

But how do you get the permit to go to a Trucking School, when the DMV offices can't give out permits?

You would get that at the testing center. They printed mine out when I passed right there.

If it's an independent school they do the testing there. I think you're answer may be above. Some states do have separate offices for Vehicles and Licensing.

It's the same Licensing Office I've gone too for well over 11 years now. They used to have CDL info and books overloaded on the walls. I'd rather not have to drive all the way down to Bellevue, but if it's what I gotta do...

    Argh.....

    lol

So in the Bellevue office they DID let you get that stuff? Does the Bellevue office also provide testing for the written exam? And do they also do the drivers exam? Or is that elsewhere per them?

Yea, they do all that at the same office. I even got two copies... it's the same as the one at this link: http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/cdlguide.pdf
I can't tell if it's the 'updated' one or not, there's no date on it (prior or post March 2010), but it's the one they're currently issuing.

    LongRoadTrucker Thanks this.
