Why should they do that? Companies exist to make money. Churches exist to praise Jesus...and sometimes to make money, but certainly not by working. I've spent most of my life working in transportation, in one rôle or another, and getting Xmas off is just something that we didn't plan on. When I worked hourly, we got double time and a half, which just about paid for the New Year's party. If they don't give you the day after New Year's off, you just call in sick. They expect that sort of thing. There is no reason why Xmas should be important to a company, though, any more than Sundays are special. It's business, not religion.
He'll (might) be home for Christmas? (Knight Transportation)

I,ve been with Knight for three months, no complaints about pay or miles...a few questions about the posts:
1. Knight pays you daily for every trip submitted, not by week. Can this be a cause for confussion?
2. How often is your Husband talking to his DM? I update mine every day. That way I ensure that I keep moving.
Best of Luck

My husband has been driving for around 19 to 20 years. He has managed to be home for every christmas day even if he didn't get home until christmas eve then leave out either christmas night or the next day. There is no reason that a driver should not be home for christmas if he wishes to be. Some drivers want to be home for the holidays and expect to be. If they let their dispatchers know in a timely manner they should get home with no problem. How long has it been since you did long haul dvrtech77? My husband has been doing it steadily for the majority of the past 19 plus years. I don't know your history admitidly, but I do know his, and I see and hear from him what he goes through each and every day. Sitting and waiting for hours on end, misinformation, and lack of dispatch communication are not uncommon in his daily routine. I have spent many hours helping him get directions, and varifying the ones given to him by the company.

I've done otr for nearly 12 years. I will say this much,I agree that any driver who wants to be home for christmad should be. It could be your husbands dispatcher who more than likely isn't very good. I'm fortunate to have a excellent dispatcher that keeps me moving. & gets me home on time. Has he tried to transfer to another service center?

For me, trucking has been the easiest in terms of getting Christmas off when compared to my other adventures.
Radio: If Christmas fell on a day that I would normally do an air shift, I did it.
Bowling Center Management: Are you kidding? Christmas night was one of the busiest of the year. Had to work off all that #### fruitcake!
Trucking: Been home all but one Christmas, that being my first in OTR back in '96. -
Your a rookie, they pay you peanuts and run you hard in another year or two when you make more money the miles will disapear and so will your cheerleading, also remember the lull lasts from dec to march.Save your penniesLast edited: Jan 8, 2011
