I was always taught to not drive in a tr.stop parking lot any faster than someone can walk(yes, that is slow)..but i still try to go that slow/safe....but then again i have seen/been around 2 tr.stop deaths.
1 was at the pilot in birmingham,al...a woman was run over by 8wheels of a loaded semi trck/trlr and drug in between the tendem axles as she walked across the fuel island..she was killed with in eyesight of her husband as he pumped fuel...
2.the second accidental death i have witnessed was at a flying j in resaca ga...a woman was run over as she walked out from between a couple trucks/trailers between parking aisles...she was hit/killed instantly.

Such a tragedy. My condolences to the driver and the family of the deceased.

Hopefully, some new drivers will learn from these posts... and avoid getting whacked by moving trucks in dimly-lit yet crowded truck stops.
-
Hopefully some overconfident truck drivers will learn from these posts and slow the heck down in truck stops, too.
Marksteven, CondoCruiser and target_driver Thank this. -
A class act driver will crawl through a parking lot. These crazy drivers might as well write IDIOT across their forehead. You can tell alot about a driver from little things like that.Marksteven, AFSTruckerswife and tech10171968 Thank this.

There have been a couple of run over deaths in Pilots over the years.

Not just Pilots.

One thing I keep coming back to are the weather conditions. It was raining/snowing, probably cold. The driver who was struck possibly had his head down to keep the elements out of his face and watching where he was stepping. He may have never seen or heard the truck, especially if there was wind involved. If he was wearing dark clothing, the driver may have never seen him, either.
Regardless of the circumstances, everybody, please pay attention and be aware of your surroundings.

I'm listenin'.
I've actually picked up a lot of tips today, from this thread and the one with pics/vids of truck wrecks. Meanwhile I'm reading my textbook on shifting up and down hills...
On topic, a truck nearly took out my RV trailer last summer as I was pulling through a truckstop somewhere in OR. The driver was really flying through there, and even a wannabe newbie like me knew that was poor practice.PurpleKW Thanks this. -
only while he was in the hospital, when i called the second time, his wife was their and appreantly one of the nurses i talked to had mentiond to his wife that I called to check on him, and when i made my second call, they were intructed by her to get her on the phone.... she wanted my address... the name of the company i worked for, my phone # she wanted to send me thank your cards...send me stuff..... i simply told it that was kind, but i dont need anything.... the only way i can be thanked is by you and your husband passing it along to the next person thats in need of help...
after her an i talked, the nurse got back on, and i said i wouldnt call back, but if anything were to happen to please contact me... and i never did hear anything, and i go by that old saying " No news is good news "
this is a kind thing to think..... i would do it... in respect of OUR fallen driver.... i am going to make it a point to give the White Pine PD a call and find out, and perhaps spread the word.....
someone said he drove for Swift... has anyone heard about Swift doing anything to " help " ??
