The horsepower and the speed are 2 different settings in the on board computer, you can increase the horsepower without increasing the speed. That is from the peterbilt manufacturer. The only reason central has the horsepower down to 400 is because they think it saves them on fuel cost. You can also change the cruise control speed and not affect the top speed, the mechanics in WVC went in to turn my truck down to 62, when I went to use the cruise, sure enough it would not go any faster than 62, but if I put my foot on the accelerator, it went up to 65. Someone made a mistake!!

The one big draw back about Prime (at least to me) is 6 months of required team driving

Yep, 2003 379 pete with a custom 97 inch ARI sleeper, couch folds out to a queen size bed, and a full size fridge with freezer. Only thing I don't have that the 103 and 108 inch sleepers have is a shower :( me not happy.

Those Volvo 780 are the biggest pieces of crap! Well at least the ones with the d-16 motors. Don't get me wrong the motor is incredible! It is actually the motor used for the Volvo 880. The motor had so much torque that it threw our sleeper off the frame of the truck! The other nice feature about the 780's is they are huge inside. They even had a table with seats. My wife and I were the test monkies. Central asked us if we would like to buy one and test it before they bought a whole slew of them. There were a couple other drivers that had gotten them too. We were called the "lemon80 crew". Those trucks had so many problems it was actually hysterical! Only reason I kept my cool is because Volvo paid us a substantial amount of money for being the monkey! We even went through two different trucks. The last one caught fire. One big problem with these trucks was that Central was the first company to get them and they hadn't started to make after market parts for them yet. So when we broke down it literally would take 6 weeks to get it fixed. If they ever can make one that has all the bugs worked out it would be a really nice truck! I think to compound the problem that was also the year that the new fuel emission laws started so they re-designed the truck from the bottom up. Actually we got a T2000 after the Volvo deal and there were a lot of problems with the T2 also. One thing that's annoying with the Volvo780 is that if anything is wrong a sensor will go off and then shut down the truck. We would have just bad sensors and because of this they would shut down the truck. Then resulting in towing the truck. Oh well, what are gonna do right! Was definitely a test of patience.

Yea, that D-16 is a lemon. They will even admit that.
Heck, all the Volvo engines were lemons. They are getting better, but I would not own one.
Out of the new engines I would want a DD-15 Detroit.
Out of the ones in 2004-2009 trucks I like the Cummins or maybe Detroit. I have more experience with the Cummins.
Remember. Every engine made in that time frame is a piece of junk. 90% of your breakdowns with those trucks are engine emission related. That is pretty sad.

So when you have these issues do not blame the truck maker. They did not make the engine. And all trucks share the same exact engine issues. I do not care if it is a Pete or a Shaker. They have the same engines. So in that respect they are both junk.

    chompi Thanks this.
