    Hey folks,

Well, I finally got trucking again.

I am having an issue with the noise in the cab, at about 1400rpm, there is a very loud, low frequency resonance in the cab. I find my ears ringing at night when I shut it down.

I have owned a 2000 Classic and it was loud but not this bad. I then drove a Westernstar LowMax and it was very quiet in the cab. The one difference is the LowMax had the longer hood with no dog house under the dash. My truck has a small dog house for engine clearance.

I don't think its the mufflers as it is not any louder with the window open.

    Any thoughts would help!!

That's a good idea. It has about 1" thick foam with foil on it but that is likely more for heat.

I have checked the whole exhaust system for rubbing against the floor etc., but haven't found anything.

I was in the same fix, fighting that low "rumbling" noise in my '04 W900. Did two things that helped, planning on more mods in near future. First was to glue some 1" neoprene sponge to the lower part of the firewall that angles away from the engine and meets the floorboard, (upper section has factory insulation). I also glued the sponge to the underneath of the floor, above the tranny. For what it is worth, the sponge is attached from the outside, in the engine compartment, and as I mentioned, above the tranny.

Last weekend, I had taken both door panels off to work on the window "roll em up and down gizmos". After putting a little grease on the friction points, (The little power window motor thanked me for that!); two coats of undercoating were then applied to the inner doors, and the inner door panels. I actually thought this would be a wasted effort, figuring the large padded door panel would do the sound dampening in that area. Pleasant surprise Monday morning when I noticed the difference. Think I am going to spray the undercoating on the underside of the cab, and sleeper floor, where I couldn't glue the sponge.

That's a cool idea Droy! I will do that, I need to lube my window tracks too.

If the mufflers are blown out inside, will they transfer a rumble into the cab? They look OK from the outside, but I imagine they are original.

Dynamat or Lizardskin, the latter is a ceramic type product, I think you can roll or spray it. They use both in sound competition, so should do a world of good. :biggrin_255: I'd also look VERY close to be sure no clamps are touching the floor anyplace.

    Thanks Slowpoke!

I have looked it over pretty good and don't see any black marks by any joints.

The Lizard Skin looks like a good product.

I will check out the clamps and see if any are close.
