I can not say with any certianty that you must, or not. I would need to glance over the contract that you signed before attending their school. You're answer will be located there.
If they insist that you take a lease truck "or else". I would insist that I needed to speak with my lawyer, and get back with them. Then take a copy of said contract to a good lawyer.
Be careful to not get sucked in with threats, or promises of "huge" money. -
i have heard that they (crengland) are ok as long as you stay a company driver, and i am not interested in owning my truck or leasing it, i just want to drive and cash my check.

Upon my graduation dated approx 1/13/06 while @ Salt Lake, I wanted the whole hogg because I was led 2 believe there was no $ or future as Company Drvr and the position was being phased out. I indicated Lease/Trainer to all who asked and after the 3 wk OTR period I almost immediately went out as co-drvr on C.A.T. Upon completion of that, during pre-lease negotiations I realized that, not only did I hate team driving, but that as a solo drvr I was obligated 2 1900 mis wkly 2 break even on the truck. Granted, I wud b compensated approx .51cpm afterward vs the .25 afforded the company drvr, but it wud only b less pay 2 me only if I drove less than 3k per wk. The following 8 mos went by more or less hovering arnd this break even point while I polished my driving skills. I grinded many gears developing Speed and Ice Shifting skill { cb says I have Lead Toe }, had several brkdwn and flats all on company expense - not mine! I grossed abt 24K when I left.
From my experiance w/CRE Co Drvr is the way 2go. Learn and build exp @ their expence. Protect ur DAC and continue 2 learn from othr drvrs. Today I both appreciate n despise CRE. Go on out there n TALK/ASK!
There is alot of Lease hype and many individuals who get a cut from ur doing so. The yrd is overcrowded w/eager moneyhungry drvrs n departmentheads and you cud end up just another ### in d seat...
Fed up w/hype, I wound up just walking upstairs and eventually got w/DM of largest fleet who put me solo OTR in a co trk that day, under load. I believe he treated me fairly, almost indiscriminately, with miles.
After 5 or 6 mos they put in in another fleet. The more I complained the more I was reminded that I was a mere Co Drvr and had low priority 2 frgt.
I hope u can read thru the lines of my wordy responce and r of the courage n strength 2 determine n decide wht is best 4 u. Perhaps do search @ this site 4 prev posts by myself n others on the CRE topic. Best Wishes and Congrats... -
no company can force you to lease a truck. they can push it and try to persuade you but that is all. and from talking to some lease/owner operaters here lately they are struggling to make ends meet, if at all.
73 FJ40 Thanks this. -
only 2 things are mandatory...
Death and Taxes.
Someone is full of it -
I will be going to CR England driving school in Burns Harbor Indiana next week. Are you still with CR England and how is everything going?
