Thanks for the condolences. I think the worst part about finding out was that I found out at the WVC yard. He was a Central driver, killed right before Christmas helping some people out of a rolled over SUV.

My co driver found out first, from the readerboard in the common room in Building 2. She came out to the truck and asked me if I knew his last name, which I didn't. We always called him Sharkman, or sharky, because he drove a black Peterbilt with silver sharks and fish all over it, and "Sharkman" on the visor.

We went inside to ask Karen, in the store, and she was able to confirm with a picture that it was him.

Sorry to hear for your loss. It just is very sad when someone goes to help only to face death.

And people wonder why roads get shut down during winter. 4 wheeler stupidity and impatience. First vehicle crashed... a 4 wheeler going too fast for conditions. Second vehicle..4 wheeler going too fast for conditions. See a pattern develop? Yet we have a fender tender and we are peeing in a cup. If these guys were held to the same standards as us, then you'll see a lot less of them on the road.

I hope the guy in the vw gets charged with 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter and 1 count of vehicular assault. That should put him in jail for a while to contemplate what he did.

We shut down in Iowa the other day, because the roads had just gone from "towing services prohibited" to "patches of ice and snow." when I drove out yesterday, I saw 1 semi rolled over, and 7 cars/pickups within a mile of the truck, just on my side of the freeway.

I see far more car accidents than I do truck ones, and I see far more cars going too fast for conditions than I do semis. granted, I see the big trucks going too fast too, and have seen several of them nearly lose it, but the ratio of 4 wheeler stupidity to big truck stupidity leans towards the 4 wheelers.

I once watched a pickup whiz past us outside of Rock springs, where it was a sheet of ice. We're picking our way along at 30, and it flew past us. I look up from my phone in time to see a huge cloud of snow and dirt. The pickup had hit an icy patch, gone into the median, and rolled. Too fast for conditions. I called 911 for them, but we weren't about to stop. Call it selfish, but I feel my truck makes for a bigger hazard stopped on the side of the road, especially when stopping it quickly could result in a wreck of it's own.
