Looking to make a move to a better company as I'm completing my 1st year of driving. I have a CLEAN record all around and both dry and reefer experience. I am interested in both of these companies after talking to their recruiters. I'm looking for a company around Atlanta, GA that allows weekend home time, good pay, and clean trucks. These are two that I see on the road often and like what I see in their dedicated route packages. Any other suggestions welcomed.
Can "only" those who currently work for or recently left on good terms these companies give me solid feedback so that I can make a firm decision. AKA: Not those who were fired or left because the company hurt their feelings in some way. I need true feedback as I like to do research before jumping. I've been with Swift and need better miles, money, and trucks.
Thanks ahead of time!!!!
Averitt or Heartland Express

Only one way for you to go,"UP"

if your working for swift both of these will be better, but you should go with averitt hands down,I worked for them , good company, but you will have to run some at night, they dont tell you that, they keep you sitting around all day to make sure they cover all the freight with there ltl trucks, if they cannot they use truckload, I am assuming you are looking at truckload.if you are in the atlanta area look at truck service out of forest city nc, they have a dropyard in lawrenceville get you home on the weekend, rita is the hr person,800-968-8552, call her. no miles at heartland, heard too many bad things, davis express out of stark fl has a yard in lawrenceville also I think they are ok. good luck
MUSTANGGT Thanks this. -
Averitt hands down. Not even close. It may take you a while, depending on what opens up in your area, but you can eventually move out of truckload. I am on dedicated Mercedes Benz account and I have no complaints at all.
I spent three years in truckload and never missed a weekend. Sometimes they may have been a little short for my liking, but they always kept that promise.BJONES1471 and EZ Money Thank this. -
Heartland Express!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the feedback I'm getting. I actually prefer running at night thanks to lack of traffic Mustang GT. I run mainly nights now.
However, let me say that I have been overall happy with Swift as they have paid on time and basically lived up to what they initially told me. However, running dedicated now I might be home regularly but the nasty truck, lack miles for the pay, and home in the middle of the week bites. -
Well......
Heartland will get you home most weekends if on regional. But you probably will not make any more money at the end of the week.
They will tell you straight out that the average is around 2200 miles per week. A little more if you go system. But system drivers are out 2-3 weeks, and then home for a weekend.
Pay for regional is .04 cpm less than system. All drivers get .04 cpm extra in the Northeast.
So pay wise they are best if you do not mind staying out 2 weeks at a time and going system. I believe the lowest starting rate for that is like .42 cpm. Plus .01 if you have hazmat and another .01 for the safety bonus at the end of the year.
So it is very possible to make .44 cpm with one year experience with them.
Just do not expect to get more than 2500 miles a week very often.
I do not know anything about Averitt. So I cannot help you there. -
i think Heartland requires two years of OTR, but i may be wrong about that.
-
One year minimum.
Not sure if they will let drivers with 1 year do system though. They may keep them regional. I never had any reason to ask.
I do remember one driver at a terminal saying he did not have the experience they wanted for system though.
I drive for heartland currently btw. -
You stay out 3 weeks with heartland and just get one weekend off.
