This could get interesting until someone takes a generic comment personally and gets all offended.....

I have been around over 30 years and have come to realize that we will never be perfect, either in reality or in the eyes of the drivers. Sometimes we get dinged because it is true. Sometimes we get dinged because we haven't given our customers enough information and they fill in the blanks themselves, which is human nature. Sometimes we take a beating for no good reason.

I will tell you this - no company asks more questions and listens better to drivers than we do. If you have a question about how we operate or why something is done a certain way, just ask me. I will be straight forward and tell you what I know without becoming offended.

    Have a great week!

I am a Project Manager at HQ, and I work in the Truck Service group at TA / Petro. I held various positions at site level for 15 years, and then started working at HQ 16 years ago. I have done just about everything except food service.

I appreciate what you do. I couldn't do half them jobs. Listening to tired, angry, whining, impatient drivers that bring their attitude inside. Attempting to clean a sess pool parking lot. I would eventially crack and get fired :)

Employees don't make corporate decisions. I like seeing the same friendly faces. If I had to rank the big ones, I like Petro the best.

The only thing I have against truck stops is the high prices supposingly paying for convenience. But there are always long lines. Pilot is especially bad about that. Truck stop chains turn a high volume of goods. They could do better on pricing. Truckers feel they are being singled out and taken advantage of..... again.

One thing I don't get...and I've seen it at a lot of places other than truck stops. Do those moppers have to buy their own soap and water? 'Cause of lot of them seem to hoard that black, greasy slime like it's gold...good to the last drop! If that nasty spooge hit my floor at home, I'd disinfect the whole place with bleach water!

    HFC Thanks this.

There are really only two ways to go to market. The first is to be the low cost leader, and the second is to create value through differentiation. You can guess which one truckstops are not.

That being said, I have never once heard anyone in my organization say anything related to "let's see how bad we can rip these folks off". We make what we need to make to stay viable, just like everyone else.

As far as dealing with "tired, angry, whining, impatient drivers that bring their attitude inside", well, that's like playing golf. It only takes 1 or 2 good shots a round to keep you coming back!

HFC and Flying Dutchman Thank this.
