I bought a Wrangler Waist length Fleece lined jacket back in 1987 or so. I wore that thing until 2006 when my wife threw it away as it was getting a "little" worn! I could not find another Wrangler! Not even on line for the longest time and the "Crap from over seas" was worthless!
I don't wear Levis as they stopped selling in truck stops I think in about '92 as we (truckers) were NOT the "class of people" they wanted representing them but sure did want us hauling their trash for them and now that they closed and shipped the last plant to Indonesia I would NOT put on anything that had their label on my body even if Mr T was holding a gun to my head... but I digress!
That old Wrangler jacket and a flannel shirt ball cap or tossle cap and scarf kept me warm in -30 weather with a good windchill thrown in!
I do have my leathers for riding and my long johns but I'll never have a better work jacket as that old Wrangler was! Waist length and comfortable for climbing all over and under a truck!
OH for the hands and work a pair of those jersey brown cotton gloves and a pair of "horsehead" gauntlet gloves all found at the fuel island! The fur lined hollow filled leather or nylon gloves for surviving the cold when not working!

I never liked those big bulky parkas. Made me feel like the younger brother in the movie A Christmas Story.
So what in your opinions are the Winter jackets that are:
1) not bulky like the artic parka type of coat
2) water repellent
3) lightweight and "breathes"
4) keeps the warmth in and the wind out! (most important to me)
I like Carhartt; rugged but again too bulky for my preference -
I have always have thought the same thing seeing all kinds of crap piled up in the windows! Males me glad that I don't have to see the rest of the truck, I can only imagine how dirty that would be!! I guess I'm just getting cranky in my old age!!!

Definitely no coat when driving. Only wear one if its really windy/cold when securing and tarping. Blast the heat in morning to warm the truck up for the day... than turn it down quite a bit because like some others have said, it tends to make me drowsy when its too warm.

I have a heavy coat that I wear outside the truck when it's cold (below 20) and the rest of the time I wear Dickies work shirts and jeans and either steel toed shoes or western boots.
If it's cold out I'll put a T-shirt on underneath the work shirt and if it's really cold I might wear "silks" under my jeans.
I like to run minimal heat in the cab because I like it a little cool in the cab when I'm driving...I keep the defrosters just warm enough to keep the glass clear. -
The freightliner I'm learning in doesn't know the "low" setting on heat, even on low its HOT.....I get in, and strip down to t-shirt, or I'm sweating in minutes. Its a sauna in there!

Yup, they can put all kinds of fancy satellite tracking, lane monitoring, auto braking if it sees something ahead, but forget about the climate controls ever working right.

Just an FYI: Catepillar makes a good steel-toed (and shanked) wellington. They feel like foot gloves and have a real good grip.

mmm yes cat boots are soooo comfy--best pair i ever had
i hate going to the places where you have to have the long shirt--hard hat that doesnt fit right--reflective vest --safety glasses that are so scratched i cant see where i am going and steel toe boots that are so stiff from non use they feel like iron boots
