Has anybody gone through Prime Inc. training. i am debating whether i want to go to prime or stevens, i don't like the fact that u can't take any of stevens trucks home, but i also don't like how long prime's training is. Any opinions will be helpful. I probably need the training, but i don't know about 6 months. If anybody can that works for them or has done all of the training please give me details.

Well, I don't know about Stevens but I did work for Prime. Trust me, you can do better than Prime. I just saved you from many future headaches.

I've been working for prime for a full year now. I had a CDL when I went but didn't have any driving experience so I did 80000 miles in training.
First off.... I know you're not crazy about being in training for that long but if you're new to driving it will do you a world of good... trust me. I've only been solo for 5 months now and I very glad that I trained for as long as I did.
Second... after about a month in training you will be getting paid $600 a week maybe more depending on how yall are running. I don't know what Steven pays a week in training but $600 a week is more than most companies pay their trainees.
Do you have a CDL? I'd be glad to answer any questions you have about prime.freeman1288 Thanks this. -
i'd recomend going to a private school to get your license, I know that Stevens if you finance the school through them they will screw you big time, its all here on the forum.
Not everyone needs a trainer for 6 months. I went to Truck driving school got my CDL and went out Solo right after Orientation and I havent had any problems, and $600/wk for 6 months is a joke lol I took home my first $800 paycheck within my first month if I recall.
You can do MUCH better then both of these companies, but If it has to be one or the other I'd say Stevens if you alread have a CDL or prime if you dont...

That would be just plain dumb to let anyone go solo right out of school. I did 60k miles and probably didnt see half the problems, or situations I faced my first 3 months on my own.
its 60k training miles at Prime. My last trainee came with no experiance and a CDL and knocked it out in 4.5 months.
I had another who got his CDL at Prime then got his 50k with me in just under 3 months.
Guess which one went home more... 10k mile difference really equates to 2 weeks
Basically training pay is team miles at .12/mile or $600 which ever is greater. $600 is garaunteed every week if you are on the truck all 7 days, go home and its just .12/mile completed that week... if the truck does more than 5k in a week the trainee makes .12/mile.. so yes it is possible to make more than $600.
School Grads (no experiance, no Prime school) start training the first 4 weeks at .10 or $500 and then move to the .12 or $600. Key thing is Prime will only hire grads within 6 weeks of graduation from a non-Prime school
As for getting a CDL at Prime. CDL instruction has no pay check, youre not even an employee till you pass the test. $200 intrest free loan per week to live on the road, payed back at $25/week. 5-6 weeks depending on how quickly you get a instructor. Work for a year no tuition out of pocket. quit after 6 months, owe half... under 6 months owe full amount. Students get a 10k training mile credit and go straight to .12 or $600.
60k training miles is the minnimum. Graduate to solo at .30/mile with the first pay raise 20k miles later to .34/mile. Trainees can choose to stay with trainer up to 80k and go solo right at .34
Youd be hard pressed to find anyone who went thru the training at Prime to say that they were absolutly fully prepared to be on there own. Most will say it might have not have been enough, but gave them the tools to solve new problems, or who to call for help. -
Well then my Company has 700+ dumb drivers rolling around lol. I havent had ANY problems since I've been out and I run 3000-4000 miles a week. I didn't need a trainer to teach me how to do that........
Like I said not ALL people need a much training as you did...
American TruckerNWMAXI and andrew5184 Thank this. -
prime or stevens ???????
Just a glutton for punishment aren't you !!!!!
Geeeeze,
Look just a little more !!!!!!!!!! -
Not to shut you down but there isn't anything wrong with going through either one of them.
The only bad thing I know about Stevens is after you get off your trainers truck they send you out with another student for dumb and dumber training. That's another few weeks on a truck with someone you don't know and may not like. Sure 80k on a trainers truck at prime would be a bit much but if you did get a good trainer you would sure gain a wealth of knowledge.
I went through Central I have been out on my own for almost 2 months. There are times I wish I had my trainer still to bounce questions off of but I'm glad I'm alone. (Did not agree with half the stuff my trainer did while I was on the truck) It really depends on what you feel you need for training.
I wanted to go to prime but there was a waiting list for female trainers. If given the chance that's where I would have rather gone.
