well my head gasket took a dump and had it replaced along with a few other issues like my check valve and some clutch adjustments. it's on 01 Western with a 12.7L DD series 60 it has 827,000 on it.. few things total price was 2500 with labor was that a decent price and was told the liner was just on the limit of still being ok but very close to being bad does the gasket going mean that the engine is about to go and time for overhaul.

Usually a head gasket going bad is due to heat or excessive pressure. Im sure your mechanic knows this buy I would double check this to make sure, make sure the head where it meets the block is perfectly straight and not warped and the same for the deck on the block (where the head meets the block) To the eye they will be straight but you will need a gauage that measures this because no matter how many head gaskets you replace on it they will keep going bad if either the head or deck on the block is warped. As for the liners do you mean cylinder liners? If so it really depends how much money you have to put into an overhaul right now. In my opinion it is better to fix something when it is starting to go bad rather then waiting for it to go bad because it may cost more in the end with messing up another part. Hope all goes well for you driver!!

When you do a head gasket it is caused by running poor coolant 90% of the time. when you change a gasket you check the block for being flat, the liner protrusion is within specs, and the head is flat.
Customers want the truck out quick and cheap.

yeah I was talking about the protrusion liner, it was still within spec but was close to being no good. I use the DD type Coolant red in color, everything checked out good when it was put back together and it's off rolling again down the road. I have money put aside for the overhaul just have to get a few more bucks before that is done which the cost would be from 10 to 14 thousand for in frame with 3 year 300,000 warranty I believe was the terms.

I have a cat and I need a head gasket. I was told that it would be 3 to 7 thousand dollars. Where did you get yours done? I would love to be able to do mine for alot less!!
