    Send me a private message. There are some pretty good (and highly imperfect) studies out there.
    .
    Suffice it to say -- burning fuel is carbon. Breathing is carbon.
    Intermodal rail has the potential to "save" approximately 2/3rd of the fuel/carbon that's burned vs. a full 25-ton payload truck BUT that load still has to go the last 15~500 miles to/from the intermodal terminals.
    .
    There are various other ways to encourage reducing carbon but the private automobile is a MUCH MUCH larger emitter than than the trucking industry.
