Finishing CDL school in a month or so. Afetr a lot of looking and reading, I've kinda boiled it down between Crete and Roehl. Both will offer me a pre hire but I'd like some input, pay, safety, fleet and dispatcher relations etc. I know everyone can find something wrong so please, offer objective and constructive advice. Thanks!!

Crete has a polcy that the trainer is in the jump seat at ALL times, Roehl does not. My exp. with Roehl was not good, the trainer was only interested in the miles we could turn (not surprising)I got into alot of bad situations that could've been avoided had he been awake. I don't remember the pay scale but do remember having to draw a small amount each day(?) Crete's $500 aweek training pay is more I'm sure.
I like Crete and am happy with them. I do have to admit that when I bailed from Roehl they reveiwed the miles and logs and decided to remove the trainer from training status and forgave the $$$$ I owed them for the bogus training. ( BIG KUDOS THERE)
Didn't help much did I?
Just my .02nota bigwheel Thanks this. -
Any info is great nyroadie and I sincerely appreciate it!! I will say the Crete people have been really helpful and I don't read much negative about them. I'm leaning that way but doing all the homework I can. This is a complete professional and lifestyle change for me so I want to at least make an informed decision. Thanks again and take care.

By the way, I do like the Crete driver training policy of not "teaming'. The best way to learn is doing it with someone there who is (hopefully) mentoring you well.

Don't have any first hand knowledge of either company. I do have a cousin who started with Crete right out of school about 6 months ago and he has nothing bad to say about Crete and says he like the company very much. Hope this helps!

rsellers....every little bit helps. Thanks for taking the time to pass it along!

Crete has a far superior freight base. You will haul a bigger variety of freight and have the options of alot more places.

Roehl pays you $250 at the completion of orientation. You'll then go with a trainer for 13 days at $60/day. You get a couple of days off and then out with another trainer for 13 more days at $65/day. You'll also earn 3 DO for every 11-14 days out. I should be heading to orientation at the end of the month. I'm only telling you what the recruiter told me, don't know from experience. Hope I helped.

bcso809....Thanks. I do like that Roehl gives you a break each 13 days or so. Seems like a good idea to let the nerves settle and break up the close quarter living. It is interesting that Crete's in-truck training is so much longer at 2 months. While a long time to "live" with someone you just met 9and hopefully isn't a nut job), the longer training would seem to be smart. These both seem like pretty good companies (as truck lines go).

I will put in my 2 cents. Even though I have not been with either company. This is my feeling on this choice.
Roehl I would not work for. Limited freight base, and things I have read and heard from time to time, that since I do not know first hand I do not want to pass on.
Crete I would work for. Good freight base, debt free company, decent regional operations, decent pay, practical mile pay.The Challenger and nota bigwheel Thank this.
