Asked about the financing of the school. As long as you have a 500 score of better on your credit you get 100% financing. There is a 100 processing fee for the seat in the class room, 85 testing fee. And the big surprise that I didn't know, but its 400 out of pocket for the lodging, and I was told that it is ONE ROOM PER PERSON.
My credit is good, and I have the money to take care of expenses. I was told that I'd want to drive since every one heads home after training to transfer their new cdl over to home state.
I was told I have to get a passport in a given amount of time, but that I didn't have to rush right out and get one. And as always, get your permit first.
So to those that have recently been through it, does all that sound about right?
Thanks.
Called Roehl yesterday to ask some questions.

looks about right, they dont tell you but they do pay you a little bit back after you pass the cdl. you get something like 14.5 cents a mile to drive there and home, plus i think some lodging back, not much but its nice.
as long as you pass the cdl its worth it, and the school is really good, took me from being really intimidated by the trucks, ready to quit,to only missing one point on the test. and that was iffy he said. a too wide right turn. -
Yeah I've been pouring over companies that I could afford to go to to get started..and it originally got narrowed down to PAM or USA. I have spent last month pouring over Roehl and researching what everyone says about them and it seems, for a starter company anyway, it's one of the more stable and non-psychotic companies to drive for starting out.

Roehl is a good starting point. the training program is high quality and time with a trainer is not 6 months, but it probably is better than most companies.

I got my passport a year or so ago, and I believe it took about a month for it to be sent to me. If you're going to have to have a passport anyway, you might want to go ahead and take care of that now. Better to have it early than not have it when you need it.

Sounds like you have done all the research and your numbers all seem to be right. I'm currently under my 7th load of Evo3 and I just started Evo3 on Saturday the 8th. It was a 700+ mile relay load from Marshfield to La Vergne, TN. I would say the training was top notched and everything I have been told would happen has happened exactly as it's been stated. I'm new myself but if you've got any questions I'll try my best to answer them.

Ok..the biggest question. How frequently do you have to visit the Gary terminal? I've heard so much about how that place is a nightmare, management wise. Apparently there are a couple of people there that try to get drivers into trouble. Some guy named Cavin Burnett? Accusations of doing something wrong, etc. There some strange guy on Youtube that made a video about it. At first I brushed him off, thinking..well maybe he's just crazy and was asking for it. But I read on a separate thread somewhere in this forum where a few drivers have had bad run-ins with Gary terminal.
I basically just want to work, and not get caught into any stupid games that try to wash out drivers so they can keep the money from new students coming in. I want to avoid being caught in a racket. -
you go through gary a ton, i have never had any issues there ever. may take a while to get something fixed but they are busy. never been bugged there. in marshfield i get a little nervous, its the main place.
i wouldnt worry about it, just drive slow, get out and look, pretty much just do your job and your good i would say -
Thanks for replying. I'm at that point where all I have to do is call recruiter back and set it all up. Been exercising to make sure my blood pressure is in check and to drop some pounds. Picking up stuff I need along the way, work gloves, flashlight, etc. Just slowly preparing.

there are alot of threads on what to bring, but make sure you take a vice grips and a hammer too. you need them all the time to slide your tandems....but you dont need them till you get your own truck
