Had a question on a eaton 10 speed truck. My question is if i start out in 4th gear with a empty trailer and if i stay on the gas a bit while i am letting off the clutch will i burn my clutch out? to do it so it wont stall out? i usually start out in 3rd gear.

I always started in 4th empty, never used the throttle. But it usually is not good for a clutch in a rig with all that torque from the diesel engine to have power applied to it while the clutch is disengaging. The torque from the engine will take care of that for you.
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
with an empty you should be able to start out in 4th with a 10 speed.....when I was empty with a ten I usually started out in 5th...never burned up a clutch...there agin it depends on the conditions towet, snow, ice, uphill....

i'd rather recommend you start off in 2nd gear. but that's just me. not even bobtail do i start out in any higher a gear. -

i've started out in 6th b/fore, esp if going down grade, all depends, you'll figure it out, you will become "One" with the trk! another thing........I haven't found any 2 trans to be the same, they all have there own personality

yes, empty 3th or 4th.....depends if I have a super tight corner to make (coming out of a reciever) shortly after starting off, where I need to idle a bit around the corner or if I'm taking off from a stop and planning on go through the gears quickly. This is assuming on level ground, no inclines.
