Read through the bs. Per diem just means you are not taxed on that amount. Which means you take more home on your check. 40 cents per mile means 40 bottom line. Every company I've worked for have had per diem pay. Don't sweat it. Website says they pay practical miles although I wish someone would confirm this issue. Anybody know if they use transflo for their paperwork or what??mark Sawyer been awful quiet Sure wish he would be honest and tell us all what really happened??? My opinion is he's a professional bser.... He sure made it out to be all wine and roses. Good luck to all who sign on at Jbs and hope Jbs becomes a good company to drive for!!!

Per diem works well for a driver with little or no deductions - it lowers your AGI, so you pay less taxes, but still get to take-home the money. If a carrier says they're not crediting you for the full amount (pulling back a penny or two a mile) then you're loosing. In your case that would be saying per diem is 10cpm but only paying 8 or 9cpm.
It also works against you - it lowers your AGI. So your income looks lower (bad for loans) and your credited SSI payments would be lower if you're injured or later in life for SS payments.rickway65 Thanks this. -

JBS does use transflo.
oldschooler and rickway65 Thank this. -
This IS NOT a hateful post. I've seen pleanty and this isn't one. She basically just posted her families experience with the company and gave a few insights. "Dentention pay was hit or miss ... keep an eye on your paychecks... " That's advice that's relevant to everybody at every compnay.
Anyway, enjoying reading the thread. Keep it up.rickway65 Thanks this. -
JBS pays a total of .40 per mile.. .30 taxable and .10 non taxable (per-diem) !! They use transflow for paperwork.. The mileage is paid on HouseHold Good Miles.. Its not practical miles thats for sure...
More then likely not going to hear from Mark on this anymore as I am sure he wont come out and say what really happened as well.. Fired quite who really knows but him and the ones at JBS..
Just remember JBS has a HIGH turn over rate as well and that goes for everyone part of it, officer, drivers everything...rickway65 Thanks this. -
The national average for turnover in our industry is close to 70 percent. I know for a fact that the turnover rate at JBS is under 50 percent. Anyone who knows this industry would know that this is a decent number and has been achieved by taking care of their employees. The majority of drivers that we have lost are the ones who cant hack it at a fast paced company. I like to refer to it as the "cleaning of house" if you will. Some of the dead weight has to be moved aside so as to make room for the new and upcoming talent. As far as empty trucks this is not the case at all. In fact JBS has ordered 400 new trucks and is taking delivery of them on the first or March. Our main terminal in Greeley has only 7 or 8 empty trucks which is minimal in a fleet of just under 800. Its simple math really. Sounds to me like a successful and growing company not a struggling one. As far as miles I ran 3200 miles this last week and I would say that is pretty good. All companies pay either the household or zip code miles. Nothing new. If you can read a map and pre plan your trip you are never out too many miles. If this is not enough then we will consider the benefits and luxuries of JBS. I have top notch insurance of every sort as well as brand new top of the line equipment. On top of that we haul our own product which adds a factor of security to our day to day operations. When the economy goes to hell and freight contracts end we are still out here hauling our own goods day after day. Think about it. We mainly haul food products. There is no need to have your pet anywhere near the food that is to be sold to other people. Really? As if health and insurance standards arent enough......... You were actually right about just one thing though. You would more than likely lose your job for sneaking a pet on the truck. But dont say you werent warned because it is listed in the company handbook that we all received and signed. Simple common sense will serve you greatly in your future endeavors. Good luck.

I forgot to address the issue of pay........ its simple. If you turn in your pay infomation on time you will get paid. If you make a mistake then you will need to fix it and then it will be added to your next check. NYC is billed the same way. No difference except for the 150 dollar bonus you recieve for going into the city. I think that pretty much covers it.

I think that I am still going to follow this thread for a couple more weeks. Received email today that they received my app and want to talk to me. 18 years OTR, about half of that on the reefer side. If they can pretty much keep me out of the NE and SE then we will see. Don;t get me wrong. Do not mind going there, just not a steady diet of it.
The Challenger Thanks this.
