Spaces1965, make sure to do some research into as many companys as you can. See what companys have female trainers and what the wait time is for them. I have seen some posts on there where some females are waiting for a long time on a waiting list for trainers. I have also seen them get right on with other companys. It's sad that it is this way, but some males do have a problem training males when they are going to have to be cooped up in a cab with them for 6 weeks. Good luck in your search and I wish you well!!

I will call them next week. I'm so confused on which route to take. I wonder if after reading some of the stuff on here that the recruiters have lied to me. I'm starting a 2 month course in Hickory NC March 1st at a community college. I chose it because I can get 1000.00 grant (unemployed) If I go to that school. I also liked the fact that it was longer than most schools and felt I would get more time behind the wheel. I am taking a leap of faith that it will all work out!

I start school next week (24 Jan 2011)
Can't wait to get my new career started. Retired from the Air Force (21 yrs) working aircraft, ready to play with some new big toys. I have already received 2 pre-hires from May Trucking and Swift and now I just need to do more research and ask questions as to who will be better for me when it comes to home time and truck maintenance. I live in Boise Idaho and May has a OC in Payette about 50 minutes away from my house. Swift has terminals in Lewiston and Salt Lake, about 5 hrs from the house. Question I have is, when I get my home time do I get to take my truck home with me, and if so, if my truck requires maintenance do I drive to one of the terminals and sit around until it gets serviced?
Take care and hope to see you on the road soon

Iam 47 and looking into a trucking career. I was looking for some honest feedback on how companys look at older student drivers. Is this going to be a negative or does it truly not matter
