I do not believe this road was built for anything larger then a golf cart.

I've had that happen before on several occasions; usually the result of the L/C or dispatcher getting half-baked directions and not being very diligent about it.

Still, residential neighborhoods give me the creeps. They're kind of like quicksand to a big truck: the more you try to struggle and not get help, the further you end up sinking into the mess. O/P was right - he should have stopped before he screwed himself up even further. (A lesson that my hard-headed self had to learn the hard way...)

I can tell you from first-hand knowledge, there is nothing at all wrong with the directions to SPRIMO. What on Earth would possess him to think a drainage ditch would make for safe passage is beyond me. I'll wager Mr. Lacy had a thing or two to say about this one. Yeah, those e-logs are doing a great job of preventing stupid incidents, aren't they?

But, then, I've seen drivers with unknown company names on their doors do some stupid stuff, too.

It comes right down to training...and the trainee's capacity to retain said training and the information provided in the training.....

And we all know it wasn't the driver's fault...it had to be someone else!

Oh..I saw a picture of an SRT truck that tried to do a U-turn on a 2-lane country road. He got stuck half way through, blocking traffic on both sides.

Worst part..it was on the road that leads to the Flying J there in Texarkana. Idiot could have just driven there and turned around.

..and it happened less than a mile from the SRT terminal. whoops!

He was delivering at the Sam's Club off of US65. Easy to get confused there - its a high traffic area, and the city has been rebuilding the intersection so the construction zone changes almost weekly. Traffic signs (or lack of them) at the intersection change along with the construction so its difficult to keep the QualComm instructions current, but that's not an excuse - they could have done a lot better. I've noticed that "they" have been getting in the habit of using the number of traffic lights as a cue to when to turn, "TL 3rd RL." Doesn't mean a lot when you loose count, or a city just installed no. 4 in there somewhere.

The Sam's Club is right after you get off of the exit from US65, coming from the terminal you'll be preoccupied with the turn across the bridge and dealing with traffic, so there is very little time for a driver to get his bearings before you're on top of it. The turn into the loading dock isn't obvious because it looks like you're turning into the parking lot for about a dozen stores, and the dock isn't visable from the street. Lots of concrete islands with landscaping, buggy corrals, too #### many 4-wheelers, and the thought that you may have to back out of that mess if you're wrong.

At that point, the next light down looks like a more likely truck route into the Sam's Club. If you take the bait, you've committed yourself into heading into residential areas no matter which way you go. After the second light, the road appears to be a country road with maybe a turnaround further down, but that's the trap... there isn't one.
