Start studying now - LOL! LOTS of info will be tossed at you in a short amount of time (at least it will for me - company school) so reading up is one thing I've been doing. As to any other tips - I think hind sight will be 20/20 - LOL! I have been spending BUNCHES of time here - reading and asking questions - but then I'm the forum rat between the two of us. He's out there doing - and I'm just reading about it - LOL - for now at least <big grin>!!

  3. Ok, There are alot of us doing the same thing-riding and or driving with our "other" halves!!
I am encouraged by our sense of adventure!!
All of my friends are freaking out and think we have both lost our minds doing this-he's a former CPA and me a corporate drop-out. I am ready for the change!!
Lady K-the seperation I think is part of making it easier to accept living in such a small place!!I never want to be apart this long again.
Books and E-readers, thank goodness for both, Laptop too!!
I know there will be challenges, but it sounds like those of us choosing this have done our research and are connecting with each other-yay women!!
Not so sure about the "barefoot and in the sleeper" though-LOL!!!!

Wife and I looked at lots of different choices, We finally chose Technical School in our area, Most private schools are 3-4 weeks a lot in a short time, Tech schools are generally 8-10 weeks a little more time behind the wheel, but not a lot. It really depends on you there are guys posting here that went to private schools doing great some at tech and are doing fine. Depends on your confidence level and what works for you. with any company school you will have to work for that co. an amount of time varies with co. Tech schools may have grants or financial aid that can help. Hope this helps some.

    Good Luck

There sure are a bunch of different options. Thank goodness for that! With the co. we are going with, it is a sponsored school (I guess you could call it). The school does train for other companies - however if you want the co to pick up some of the cost - you go drive for the co. sponsoring the schooling. If we decide to leave (and we can) before the co. finishes paying for the schooling, then we are on the hook for the whole amount. We figured for ourselves - one starter co. is pretty similar to another starter co., and a lot of the difference is what you bring to it. Work hard, on time, and be willing to take the curd with the cream - with a smile on your face the whole time :yes2557: and we'll do OK. The reason we chose to go co. school instead of community college or tech - is the time factor. Yeah - info will be crammed in, but the schooling is to get us behind the wheel - the REAL learning will be with the trainer in the 'real' world!! (That's why I pray I get a good one!!) I would love to compare notes though - on the differences from tech vs. company schooling. Mmmm sounds like we will need to meet up for some coffee :biggrin_25525:

That is funny. I have yet to see a gross shower but I am sure they exist. Being on a dedicated run, we pretty much stop at the same truck stops every week.

What type of e-reader? Do you like your e-reader or are you gonna miss your paperbacks? :biggrin_2554:I'm looking at a Nook. But I downloaded Kindle from Amazon on the small laptop (we have 2). I haven't tried it yet, but I didn't have to buy a separate gadget! Just buy and download from Amazon to my laptop.

I haven't been brave enough to spend money on any e-books yet :biggrin_25524: not even sure how to go about it, and since mine is an 'off brand' if what I purchase will even work on what I have... I'll have to break down and try it :biggrin_25523: I'm just not 'computer' sauve - I can do e-mail/bill/forum/FB and that's about it :biggrin_2559: I still go through bookstores though - yeah, I think I will miss the paperbacks - just because they are familiar. Life changes though - so I'll get use to the 'new' soon enough :biggrin_255:

Well the latest update on Klingon is last night they either picked up or dropped in Tracy, CA (only an hour away from me - but I wasn't able to make it down there :() When he woke up they were on there way to Bakersfield. Now they are going to 'repower' a load in Barstow (due there at 10pm) and heading to IL!! His trainer is aiming to take 'home time' (and he lives in/near Fontana) on the 29/30/31st... well I head to Fontana to start school on the 31st... YEAH!! Needless to say, I changed my flight from the 30th to the 29th - LOL - I'm going to get every little minute I can with him!! (now if they get the days off like planned - and I can hear God laughing as I type the word 'plan'!! :biggrin_2559: )

The only thing that is bugging me a bit - Klingon (when I asked) said that he has only backed the trailer about 4 times in all this time :( - thank goodness he has SOME experience driving/backing even if it is 20+ years old... :biggrin_25513:

I felt I should chime in here. I have played around with a Nook (Barnes and Nobles) and a Kindle (Amazon) both of which I really liked. I have decided to go with Amazon. I haven't bought a Kindle yet (and might not) but what I really like about Amazon's system is that not only can you read the books you buy on a Kindle but you can also read them on your computer and PDA if you have one. The app for reading the Kindle books on PDA's is free and available on iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, and Palm that I know of.

    Hope this helps :)
