Hey guys,
Got a problem with air loss / build up. When using the air system heavily, e.g. when backing up in a tight spot heavy, using the brakes a lot etc. the pressure goes down quite quickly to below 90 and then takes a long time to build up to normal even if RPMs raised to 1400.
No air leaks when the engine is off.
Dryer cartridge replaced ~ 3 months ago
Any ideas where to look ?

Your compressor or governor would be a good spot to start.
Define "long time", is it over the 1 minute build up time at idle from 90 to 135? -
Governor is brand new too.
Takes about 3-4 minutes -
This truck should be at a mechanics and OOS by our regs. Probably your compressor is shot, or there is a restriction in the wet system somewhere.
Put it in a shop before someone gets killed. -
Been to 2 shops, they can't figure it out
-
air system is not very complex---i would suggest taking it to reputable shop not joes taco stand &truck repair
it sounds like either the compressor isnt putting out enough --or possibely a blockage in the system
as the compressor ages it will pass oil--and when the oil cools it hardens --kinda like charcoal --its possible that coould be the probelm -
Yes, that's exactly the problem.
When a Volvo dealer tells me they can't fix it because they can't recreate it in the shop i feel like driving this truck through their showroom...
It does not happen all the time. When I'm on the highway it does not do that. I can see the pressure in the primary go down to 100 psi and then back to cutoff pressure, so that's normal I think.
It does it when I do a lot of back and forth, e.g. when backing up in the Bronx someplace -
Have you done the air build up test? to see if it is in spec?
-
hmmm ok--you would think volvo techs should be expirienced enough to figure it out

Maybe a bad pancake (brake chamber diaphram) Pull your hand valve down and walk around the trailer, listen for air leak.
