stage call trucking

We're going to be hauling the lights,sound and set for a Broadway stage play tour. Have done one offs for Lady Gaga, Buck Cherry concerts in the past year. The Buck Cherry concert was in Daytona so my husband took our teen daughter and her BF with him. Got to see the concert and since the venue was close to the Harley dealer/museum, they went through there while the show was getting set up. This go round is for 14 weeks in the south, LA and Broadway. Some dates are for about a week so the truck can still do some short runs during that time.

 

..and think of the autographed stuff you'll get.

I know some big name acts have their own staff, including semi drivers.

I'd love to haul stage/lighting equipment for concerts. I'll just stick to OTR and keep dreaming though....*sigh*

All of the tour bus companies are hiring in Nashville, provided you have verifiable experience as a "Bus Driver"......there is so much turn over. You drive at night most of the time, and people get sick of driving at night, cleaning the bus in the morning and sleeping all day.

 

My wife is Warden at a state prison here in Florida, been with DOC for 27 years. Her state retirement is figured at 3 % per year, so she could retire now at 27 x 3 % x her yearly salary . Is that similiar to yours? She feels like things might change under our new Governor.
I would stay with your job at least until you are vested in retirement.

I wouldn't leave a good government job for ANY trucking company.
Stay there, retire at 57 with a full government pension + bennies, then go drive truck if you want.

When I used to stay at the Super 8 north of Cincy, I ran into a driver who hauled stage/lighting equipment. He showed me all the autographed stuff he's collected over the years. Usually the big name star is the one that gives it out to the crew as another way of saying thank you for their hard work.

Not all celebs are full of themselves. Some are, some aren't.

Also he told me the only real way you'll get to see a concert (from backstage no less) is if the tour has multiple dates in one city. Otherwise you're in bed sleeping while the show is going on.

Oh and if you haul for Madonna, she doesn't allow any kind of meat in the venue so if you want a burger, you'll be walking your self down the street somewhere for that burger.

 

I would not . . .You have a sweet deal IMO and taking a job that is so sensitive in so many ways that would have such a high probability of scouring your trucking career-
the "excitement" that you feel is prominent in that industry would likely wear off REAL quick so . . .No

 

I heard that transportation for concerts, entertainers and Broadway plays can pay $20,000 to $30,000 a month if you own your own truck. I was backstage at a concert one time and saw that everybody gets 3 big catered meals at the theater every day, some of the best "eating" I have ever seen. That would sure be one business I would love to get in on.
