My SO retired after 42 years as a school bus driver and school transportation supervisor. In spite of years of experience, she took the refresher course at Eaton Proving Grounds. She recovered the skid on the skid pad where the instructor pops the red button, but she said it wasn't enough fun. She wanted to do a donut. So, they let her drive the skid pad again and she did a 360.

Maybe they should double or even triple the road training. I've seen some school bus drivers pull some dangerous maneuvers... on the flip side, those same drivers are dealing with a busload of distraction, something I would never choose to do. And those yellow school buses? Paint 'em day-glo orange or neon green, some color that REALLY stands out, even in cruddy weather. Having said all this, maybe those school bus drivers should be paid more as well... higher pay might attract a greater number of professional drivers to that scene. Of course, most school districts here in Shaky are already broke, due to---you guessed it---poor management. Funny how this situation parallels the trucking industry.

i like the idea of the strobes on the school buses--not sure if they all have them or not--but helps in visibilty
maybe a redesign in buses would be an option---ever see the video of buses in an accident? all those pax end up flying all over the place--a bus really nothing more than a covered wagon with bench seats--nothing has changed really since the 1930's
hopefully all the people recover quicklyPurpleKW Thanks this. -

My sister in law was called in to the local hospital where many of the kids were taken. Broken bones and bruises. Per the local news tonight (Rochester NY) 2 kids in Strong Hospital (Rochester) in critical condition and one kid in a hospital near Syracuse critical. The driver is in satisfactory condition.
The good part if there is any- was the comment from local police and fire who responded and said that the kids exited the bus as they were taught via the back door very orderly fashion and no panic and I am SURE this helped to prevent many more injuries. Hats off to those kids and all those that have helped the injured along the way. Prayers to you all and your families for speedy recoveries!!!Lilbit, bbqhoncho and otherhalftw Thank this. -
