Assuming you mean Mcelroy in Cuba, AL.

They are located at my old BT terminal.

Never drove for them, but knew the owner pretty well.

    Pretty straightforward company.
Easy to talk to the "management".

Biggest "small company" you can find.

I would have posted this in the Company's DAC but there is no McElroy Thread. This is my brief experience at McElroy's Orientation in Cuba, AL. in June, 2011. You stay at a Best Western Hotel just over the boader in Meridian, MS about 15 miles SW of Cuba. The Hotel is nice and clean and the room had a small refrigerator, you can share a room with another driver or you can get one by yourself if you want to split the bill with McElroy. There is two restaurants within walking distance, but the fast food joints are across the interstate about 2 miles away. Your first day is all in the classroom signing a TON of paperwork, and watching safety videos. They also get you into some computer trainning and begin assigning people to do some simluator trainning in the evenings. Then at the end of the day you
ride back the the hotel with some homework to do that is due on Friday. The second day is when you get the DOT phyical done at a Meridian hospital and then ride clear up to Tuscaloosa, AL to do the agility test at a doctors' office. They check your heart rate after doing some exercises and climbing and lifting. One thing you must do is lift a rolled up 110 pound lumber tarp off the ground onto your shoulder and onto a table that is the same hight as a flatbed trailer. This is where I failed, so I was sent home that night. Also, the terminal is out in the middle of nowhere, so be sure to get a ride with the group to get some lunch. Listen to the other guys that are on their second week of orientation, they can tell you what to expect the first week.

    Bottom Line:
I think McElroy would have been a decent company to drive for, the folks at the terminal were friendly, and helpful. One thing I didn't like was that they use the lever type load binders, those d*** things are too dangerous. And you can't use your own. They did pay me mileage to get down there and back, but I took the Greyhound Bus so the check was about $40 less than the two bus tickets. My advise is to drive if you are within 500 miles of there. I haven't been paid for the two days of orientation, but I'm okay with that. Again, if you are thinking about driving for them just be sure that you are strong and fit and can lift 100+ pounds up on your shoulder by yourself.
