I live in Tx, and I have to choose between Wisconsin, Ohio, or Georgia for the 4 weeks of class. As I live in Tx, and I have to provide my own transportation I am going to head to Georgia for the Feb 14th class unless anyone here has a compelling argument for the other locations.

The Millis is a little lacking on what to expect on this month of training. I was hoping some people here who have done it could fill me in.

    Is it hotel accommodations?
Can you get your own room?
Did you shop for groceries, or were meals provided?
What hours were you in class/truck?
What did you do on the weekend?
If you fly do you think you'd need a rental car?
or how close is the hotel to where the classes are?
and is the hotel near somewhere to shop like wal-mart?

Does anyone have a list of stuff you should take, or things you wish you had taken looking back on it?

Any additional info you'd like to provide about this is welcome

    Thanks

i would say if you want more winter snow training go to wisconsin or ohio, if not go to georgia
i would recomend getting training in the snow because your going to run into it sooner or later

if you know what hotel your staying you can go online and see what walmarts are around

I don't know what hotel it is going to be. I just did the calculations and a plane trip would cost $228 round trip, if I were to drive it would be about $180 just in gas both ways.

So I am definitely going to try and find the hotel info and see if I can just fly, and hopefully won't have to rent a car.

They will pair you up in rooms, of course if there is an odd # of students somebody will get lucky and get a room to them self. I know at Trenton the guys had a company van they let them use while not in class and on weekends for getting food, etc..

Oh and congrats! Best of luck to you.

Ryum, I live about 30 min. from Cartersville. They do have a wal-mart and more. Cartersville is about 15 min. from one of Atlanta's fastest growing areas.
I'm hoping to get in the Feb. 14 class myself. How long did it take you to get accepted into the class?

The recruiter gave me the options of Wisconsin, Ohio or Georgia on tuesday, and said she'd be back on thursday. I decided on Georgia, called her back and made the payment. Just got all my paper work to sign and ect. I'm reading over all the legal stuff now.

Hey and Welcome aboard - I trained in Cartersville also so I can help here (I think LOL)

    1. You'll stay in a Holiday Inn about 1 exit away from the Terminal. The hotel is paid for by Millis. You'll pay it back through payroll deductions once you get hired on. It's like 20 bucks a week if you have a roomate and 50 if your in a room by yourself.
    2. The hotel provides breakfast each day. Not the best by far but it's free. Thats the only meal they provide. Your room will have a microwave and refrig so you can buy what you want. I did and saved a lot of money that way.
    3. The Hotel is about 5 miles from everything you'll ever want. There is a Walmart and just about every type of resturant you may want.
    4. You'll be in class from about 730AM to 530PM. Most of which will be outside on the training course. It's GA so you never know what the weather will do. Bring warm clothes but it's not too cold like WI or OH might be.
    5. They have a minivan that the trainees use each day. So you can go just about anywhere you may need to go.

Greg is the trainer there. He's awesome and you'll enjoy him. You'll have no issues with getting food since when you start driving - Greg always has you go to the best (mom and pop) places all over GA that he knows.

Note - One thing about GA Training Lot - it's all gravel so expect to be covered in dust everyday. You'll train in the lot using a couple of older Freightliners and when you go out on the road you'll use a T2000.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any other questions. We'll help you get answers.

E-logs are only installed on the new trucks as they come in. I used one in my trainers truck. I actually prefer the E-log. Simple to use and most DOT wont mess with them.

    biker dave Thanks this.

You'll be with your trainer for a minimum of 5 weeks up to 8 weeks if needed. Trainer is supposed to ride shotgun until you get your cdl. Once you get your cdl you will eventually start running like a team (depends on if he trust you or not), but you will still be getting training pay. Not team mileage
