A lot of BS and wishful thinking on the part of sleep labs and CPAP makers in this article . Never mind outdated info from 2002 and 2008 . How about something recent ?

Well, many companies are measuring neck size and measuring BMI on physicals.

Breach a certain point on either they will require a very expensive "sleep study" ... and may require a cpap after that.

If your overweight or even close - it may be a problem soon.

Even muscle weight can effect your neck size and bmi the way it's set up now.

You are so wrong, I am sure you don't have a clue. I thought so after being tested on the request of my personal doctor then I refused to use the machine for four years and it sit in the closet because I new more then the doc. One day a couple months ago I had trouble staying a wake and I couldn't run like I use to and ended up having to unload the following day because I kept dozing off. I got home and took it out and started using the machine and I can't go with out, I use it every time I go to bed and even when I take a nap. I have so much more energy and don't sleep in like I use to. It is better then any energy drink. Also it is just not obese people that have sleep apnea skinny people can have it to.

I have 2 machines and both set inmy closet. Cant get use to the mask. I can go about 4 or 5 hours at night and then I have to take it off so I can get comfortable. I do know that it is a serious problem, my dad would have been dead by now if he hadnt started using one a year ago. He finally went to the doc and they did a study on him. His blood oxygen level was so low he couldnt walk 200 feet. Today he enjoys retirement and feels like living again!
Some people it works for and some it does not. To say it's all B.S. well....... just don't ever worry about getting a study and you can live your shortend life the way you want. Your decision.

I've had sleep apnea untreated for about 20 years. It never was a problem until the past year. It does get worse. Sleep apnea is a precursor to diabetes, acid reflux and hypothyroidism. It got to the point where I had to take a nap every day. Late night runs my vision without warning would go to a complete blur for a few seconds.

You can fool yourself, but the bottom line is you have to get treated or things will get worse. My CPAP currently sits in the closet because I can't stand it. But I'm still looking for a solution. The sooner you get treated, the better off you will be. I would get it done before the FMSCA makes up some stupid rule too. Many people have died from sleep apnea. I would take it seriously.
