some people have no sense of responsibility or respect for others

The article is dated 1/12/11, during the ice storm. I would question whether it is something that Wal Mart plans to make permanent, or if it was just during the storm.

Yes ... it was just for the ice storm.

Wal Mart was probably put into a "Catch-22" situation where the regular customers could not get in because the roads were so icy that the authorities told me to STAY HOME NOW.

The Wal Mart employees and managers probably could not get home, so, they had a big parking lot that almost no one was using. Why not get the trucks to stay there until the snow / ice storm passes? The drivers can use their bathrooms and shop. A little profit could be coming in. So, the managers probably thought "50 percent of something is better than 100 percent of nothing". Also, it was a public service because big rigs and other vehicles were off the street and not causing problems for GDOT. At that time, Interstate 20 was at almost complete grid lock.

But trucks taking up that much room in "normal circumstances" it would not be possible.

    HOWEVER ...

in normal dry weather circumstances, it would not hurt some drivers to contact that Wal Mart ... thank them for their help during the storm and ASK if they can park there in a designated area the next time they are in the area to shop, etc.

Probably just for the storm, the end of the article says Wal Mart allowed the drivers to use the restrooms and buy food. Really? They allowed them, wow.

Kinda nice to know forthrightly exactly what status we have when we're "allowed" to use restrooms and buy food. Whatever shall we do when we're no longer "allowed?" I submit we'll be required to starve to death in our trucks--but we'll probably get ticketed if we leave the truck idling to keep it from stinking to high heaven when they find our corpses...

Basic humanity is a dying concept.

Even with the free bathroom, the parking lot was covered with yellow snow. :)

and that is one reason we cant park in 90 % of the places we once could. Drivers have turned lazy, its only what 200-300 feet to walk inside ? The same guys that dont kick tires and check lights a few times a day/ night are the same guys who piss all over the parking lots and toss trash out the window.

I used to go to that Walmart when I was with Werner. The terminal is just down that side street a ways. Always saw at least one or two trucks parked there. I just went bobtail because it's a little iffy getting in/out with a trailer.
