If your trained, I would go to Conway. They have plenty of solo freight, and you dont have to deal with all those meat patches and driving all night. I will tell you my old co-driver had 4 years expeirence and could not pass Conways skill test last year. I'm sure a driver from Conway will chime and tell you what is expected......but its tough and they only want the best at that company.
If you need training go to Central and put your time in......they seem to take care of their drivers, I have tried reefer freight and its just not my style, only you can determine what best for you. Nuff Said

If you want to drive reefers, then Central Ref is better. If you want to drive dry vans then Con-Way is better.

I drove for Con-Way for just under 2 years. I didn't go through their skill test in Joplin but I heard pleanty of stories about it. Most people pass it. If you're a student and get hired on by CW then you'll go out with a trainer, like every other company, and you'll have time to practice on the skills course. I wouldn't worry about that.

What are the reasons for wanting to drive reefers and dry vans respectively?

Why was it not your style?

Driving all night trying to make early morning appointments, sitting for hours to getting unloaded at the grocery warehouses, having to deal with wash outs and filling the reefer fuel tank (drivers have to keep the tank half full at most companies, which means sometime you have to find a truck stop and fill up before you swap or drop a trailer.....just more time and miles they dont pay you for)

Good things ......they keep you busy, but.......... often at a lower amount per mile then dry vans.

Actually I make more than dry and I have hauled dry goods too.. washouts don't take much time and I fill the reefer when I fuel up. You have an appointment you are in and out. Waits at the grocery warehouses aren't that bad unless you are late. Haven't had to run all night either. Proper planning prevents that. I got up early a few times, but not all night.

Now I will say you can't mosey to a drop with pershables on board..

For the most part Central has treated me right

    Celtic,

Come back and tell us what you think in 6 months, your still on the honey moon buddy. I'm not saying reefer is all bad, but truck wash outs in the cold weather at 3 am suck and often at most companies you can not fill your reefer tank when you fill the truck........I said most.

    Two words: Blue Beacon.

Central is not one of those companies.. I can fill the reefer when ever and where ever and they never squawk at us using Blue Beacon. Central has an account with them.

I'll come back in 6 months, but you know I probably will say the same thing. Why is it everyone thinks six month's will make difference. It is what it is and what you make of it.. six months, six years won't matter.

Lupe didn't ask about most companies he asked about Central Ref.
