Most companies around Williston that haul pipe do it themselves. The main areas looking for owner ops would be water (fresh/flowback/saltwater) and belly dump. Crude oil, pipe, and rig moving is usually done with company rigs, not leasers.

body job tankers 100bbl, trailer 180-240ish all self loaders roper,bowie, or centrifugal pumps. usually you won't haul just water, you will do oil loads as well

There are lots of times that the rig movers will hire independant contractors, I have worked for a couple over the years. The OP makes this sound like its worse driving here then it is in Iraq. What a crock of crap, but then look, hes only been holdin the wheel for 3 years so everyhting seems to be a big deal when you are that new.

Rig movers hire independents but they generally don't lease them on from my experience. They use them as need and a sub but there is not lease agreement as the water/sand guys get.

I would like to give it a try but hate to spend that much money out on a trailer just in case I don't like it.

if your hauling produced fluids from the wells themselves its a different ballgame than hauling frac fluids.most crude oil haulers will at least occasionally switch to water and back, for them the critical point is flushing the tank before hauling clean oil to a pipeline point. lots of hauling companies that own the trailers and run O/O's, in just about every kind of oilfield operation. Fracing and other "special' ops are the exception, the equipment is so specialized, and its operation is so critical to the overall operation that they generally prefer to have total control over its maintenance and specs. if one unit on a project goes down during the job it could render a job worth a million$ a total failure. that means no $ for the boss and the customers start looking at booking the competition instead
