Ordering new tucks Cummins or Detroit

One of the nice things about having a Cummins is that if you need breakdown service, any authorized Cummins shop could do it, so this adds lots of dealerships, IH, Pete, KW, and Freightliner, where with a Detroit not as many may be certified for the newer engines other that just a Detroit or Freightliner shop.

 

I would check with JD power and see who has the most breakdowns.

 

International dealers are no longer authorized Cummins dealers for 2010 and newer Cummins engines. If you drive a truck with a 2010 model year Cummins engine you cannot get warranty work done at International. I think that Cummins are only available in Peterbilts now too.

 

I still think you can get them in a Volvo as well. Not sure about any other makes. That sux about the International, cuz I dont want their MAXXFORCE 15 motor in my lonestar, its based heavily off the Cat, JUNK JUNK JUNK.

I'd like to choose Cummins. CRD on big engines is too new technology to be reliable, Mercedes does not use CRD on semis in Europe till Detroit Diesel be succesfull in the USA, so driving CRD truck (DD15, MAN/Maxforce) you are like a guinea pig.

But SCR (AdBlue/BlueTech) is thing you must not be afraid. Yeah, this is additional unit with additional problems, but just do not fill SCR tank with diesel ore water and it must work well. Yeah, there are some winter use issues, but not so bad.

 

How can this be, as they are still selling ISX's for the higher HP applications?

Yes Volvo shops can be certified as they still can put an ISX in a truck, and I'm guessing sinnce you can now get an ISX in a Freightliner they will be too.

 

Mercedes/Detroit SCR unit is better Cummins and Volvo. More reliable. it is true

But Detroit SCR usnit injects a bit more SCR then Volvo, less accurate but more reliable becose works with lower pressure. Volvo SCR pressure is 50 BAR.
