Does anyone in the Wilmington, NC area have a class A tractor/trailer available on the 8th of February? I have a CDL Class A Pre trip and driving test to complete, and need somebody with a Class A to accompany me, and lend me a rig for the test. I am a photographer and jack of all trades, and could barter and pay for diesel if that will help. I've had some driving experience, and I have many employment options available, but I need the CDL to make it happen, and I'm getting desperate for a truck.

    Hoping someone can help.

    Thanks

if you ain't tried it yet, get an account on Craig's List and ask for a sponsor there as well for your area....this is how to reach MORE people, especially in your area....

    tips....

make sure your permit is still good.

offer to pay for (about) 6 to 10 gallons of diesel (about) which would be about $35.00 for 10 gallons # $3.509

then maybe offer up to $30 per hour of truck time, with at least a 2 hour minimum guarantee no matter what.....(then more money for more hours, stands to reason.....)

you'll "be up to" $100 with this offer......not too shabby for someone to make if you only use the truck for 1.5 hours and use up only 4 gallons...!!

Thanks, I do have a craigslist account, but I don't know what you mean by a sponsor?

My paper permit is good for 20 days, and I believe they mail me a permit in NC, but not sure for how long that is good.

I'd be more than willing to pay for fuel, and a small hourly rate sounds plenty fair too!.

I posted in the "wanted" section, and offered to pay for fuel, and barter family portraits, or photos, as I'm a photographer too, or barter whatever other things someone may need, as I'm sort of a jack of all trades in electrical/mechanical/ homebuilding/and small home repair/ some auto repairs, etc.

    But so far no takers.

I guess I'll repost on c.list and keep praying :)

    Thanks :)

Did you try going over to CFCC and seeing if you can use one of their training trucks? Can't hurt to ask.

Only other option would be to rent one (penske). Not sure if they will do that or not. If not you need to find an Owner operator. No way a company driver will be able to do it. This is how the schools have you by the cojones! Good luck to you!

a "sponsor" is the person who provides the truck..

permits should be good for 90 to 120 days, or 1 or 2 years......

you NEED to know this....your future depends on you having a valid permit the day you go for your testing at the DMV....

post that craig's list ad in the "transportation section"....that's were the drivers will be..!!!

    Ok.. found out some details!

    1) Permit good for 6 months.

    2) Penske, Ryder, Etc... don't rent a class A truck, unless you have a class A licence, and a business with 1 million insurance coverage.

    3) Found a nice gentleman with his own company who is willing to let me use his truck and trailer, and go with me to the test. He's helped others before, and knows what it's like to start with nothing. So... prayers answered!!! Thanks for all of them, and BIG thanks to my helper.

Hint do not go to lumberton with that paper permit if it's expired. Your plastic one should com in 7 days.

Now the fun part. Your CDL will cost you $15 a year, but you pay for 5 yeas plus 3 dollars per indorsement per year. NCDMV doesn't take plastic..

I'm scheduled for February 8th in Wilmington # CFCC. And the paper permit is expired, but I've already received my plastic one.

And thank you so much for telling me about the 5 year deal! I had no idea!

I knew it'd cost something, just didn't know how much.

So... my CDL A, plus tanker endorsement, plus doubles + triples endorsement...

    my math says CDL A # 15 per year = $75.00

and two endorsements # 3 each, is $30.00

so I should show up with a check or cash for $105.00

    not cheap, but worth it!!!

Get on the DMV website and see if you need your medical card for testing. That might be something you need to get done before hand. Each state is different.
