quietmike,
he is surviving. honestly these past few weeks his fleet manager has been abusing him. my hubby ended up calling his trainer because he was on the verge of quitting. trainer made some calls and now he will get a new fleet manager. they promised a lot of home time and when he was with his trainer he got it. I'd have to say ever since New Years, my hubby's home time is less and less. Twice now he has been home without a 34 hr restart, tonight will be the third time, in around 2am sunday and back out 3am monday. hubby's willing to tough it out with the new fm. guess jason n. isnt the best fm for new hires and runs them off quickly. keep that in mind if you decide to go with them.
ps,
orientation is tough for TMC. You can make it up to the very last day and still be sent home, they are that picky about who they hire. Don't let that deter you, just wanted to give you a heads up.

thats cool man, I think jeff said there was 11 in my class but im not sure. I been reading the cdl manual but I get to the questions and forget. Im hoping when I get there I will just live and breathe school. Im getting endorsed for everything so they said I would have to take a seperate test for the school bus. I think I have to go monday through friday im only doing the 5 week class.
Thanks for the info im sure ill be seeing you soon -
I was really thinking about tmc but im leaning more towards maverick they seem to have a better program and you make alot more money in oreintation and with a trainer.

I'm in the 10 week program. Maverick looks like a good company from what I've read on these and other forums. Hopefully we'll have a recruiter come in to give us more information. The job placement lady at school said you need at least a 90% for Maverick to look at you also. Don't worry about reading and forgetting it. I was too. My instructor is really good about putting everything in terms that you can understand and doing drawings on the board and he's all about getting you involved. I thought I was going to have a hard time learning this stuff but it seems to be going pretty good so far. The biggest thing I think is to make sure that you do a little bit of studying on your own. I get to the questions in the CDL manual and answer them, then I'll go back and reread the section to see if I was right. Right now I'm working on an air brakes home work assignment that has like 50 questions to go through and answer. It's hard but rereading the sections over and over again really helps to drill it in my head.
truckerswife,
Sorry to hear your husband is having trouble with his fleet manager. Hopefully the new one will be better about getting him home.
I really don't think that I want to go with TMC after some of the stuff I've read about them on this forum about how tough and selective they are. -
Also, my instructor was telling us that he is supposed to have a new class on the 31st and we'll be moving to a different room. I think you might end up with this instructor as yours.

thats cool man, Like I said I cant wait to go to school. Im so excited. Im hoping it goes by fast so I can start making some real money. Thanks for all your help

Hey mike how was school today

Monday sucked really bad. Tire blew up on the way to school. Went into class and we studied up on combination vehicles, doubles, and triples. Didn't do much of anything else. After school the guys in the shop swapped my tire out for me since I didn't have a jack or the tool to remove the lug nuts. Next time I buy a used car I'm going to make sure it's there.
On Tuesday we took a test on CV, Doubles and Triples. I got a 93. Then we started on the Hazmat section of the CDL manual and looked over the hazmat compliance book we were given. Then a hazmat study guide where you fill in your answers, it actually works really good for getting the information you need.
Wednesday we took our hazmat test. I got a 98. Then we watched a video on coupling and uncoupling and about 11 we went outside and spent the rest of the day doing that. Finally got to get behind the wheel of a big truck. It was only going forward and backwards without giving it any fuel but it was still a pretty awesome feeling.
And today, Thursday, we got a book on Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations and learned how to look stuff up in there and how to understand what it's telling us. This is a really neat book. In grayed out areas it has DOT interpretations answering questions. It really helps to clear up a lot of confusion and answered some of the questions I've seen on these forums.
We had a few recruiters in this week. Roehl, Falcon, and Werner came in. Roehl is looking pretty good. I'm going to put in applications to all of them anyway. I'm at 3 pre-hires and would like to get as many more as I can. Overall it was a pretty good week. We also had a former student come in from TMC today. Actually looking up above our posts at truckerswife71s post the guy that came in today said he was having trouble with his Fleet Manager and I think he said he was from Warren also. Anyway, the guy said he's had a few issues with TMC but overall he liked it and the problems he's had they're making it right.
The next to weeks we'll get to spend more time outside coupling and uncoupling and a lot more classroom time working on logbooks and route planning and getting into FMCSR a little bit more.
You starting on Monday? -
thats cool man sounds like your learning alot, Yeah i start Monday I cant wait.
-
I took my permit tests yesterday. Did general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles, doubles and triples, tankers, and hazmat.
Nick2001 Thanks this.
