that happened to my wife last year.
she rear ended Ilegal mexicans, a car load, only 1 was legal. that one owned the plate that belonged to another car, the vehicle they was driving wasnt registered, 2 went to the hospital. also plate was registered in another state, to a different car.
it happened at dusk in a heavy rain, lots of fog, they had no lights on, & brake lights didnt work, she was driving slow because of the fog, & rain & was driving 35 to 40mph in a 55 mph zone, they almost missed their road, & panic stopped & of course was hit.
there were witnesses at 2 businesses across the road, they gave statements to police, but wife still was charged with the wreck. she went to court & lost. her only wreck ever.
her insurance company shafted her on this because they also represented the 1 legal mexican, that had a tag, that was actually registered to a different vehicle. but they called it like a "set up" but they just wanted to wash their hands of it. they refused to pay full value of the car, & we have since changed insurance carriers.
in VA be careful if you think because someone doesnt have lights on & you hit them, that they will get the ticket, because in this case they got ticket for improper equipment, plus no drivers license, the person that was driving was illegal, the legal one was in rear seat. but wife got the ticked for the wreck.

Just was in AZ Monday. Saw a AZ Highway Patrol cruising the parking lot at the Pilot in Avondale. He stopped a driver that was backing into a spot, got his log book etc and started in. I saw him write the guy a ticket for something though I don't know what. I want guys who are unsafe and running illegal off the road but this just struck me as wrong to get busted at the truck stop. Seems like there has been alot of enforcement activity this month to me all over the place. Everbody better mind their Ps and Qs!!

That's I emphasize that the drivers get to know the "Green Book" better than the back of their hands......
Look....
I have had CDOT tell me that a Cali spread axle is legal to 17K per axle like a tandem.....Not true...Cali spreads are legal to 20K per axle....
I have had NMDOT tell me that if you go from Line 2 to Line 1 that your duty day has started....Again not true....Off duty is off duty.....The duty day doesn't begin until you're doing a pre-trip.....
I don't argue with DOT.....I will however, talk my way out of a citation if possible.....
We both know that DOT does not need a reason to pull us over....
I have had many a level 1 conducted on a shoulder of a highway.....Mainly on two-laners where you have a "bored to tears" DOT.....
Funny though...ever since CSA took effect....I have not been pulled over or, pulled in a coop, other than for permits.....
I like CSA......it actually works....Well in my favor thus far..... -
CDOT requires all trucks to have the last eight Vin#'s placed on the sleeper or the door of a truck....it's not in the "Green Book"....but CDOT enforces it.....
You either comply or, you do the "CDOT Coop Shuffle" at every CDOT coop....It's that simple....
You either understand it's sometimes better to spend a little green and comply to get DOT off your azzhat.....Or you don't....
I'd rather pull in the coop...drive across the scale and get the "green" than to have to get the "arrow" and park.... -
ODOT requires ALL ("Oversize"..."Wide Load"...."Long Load") Signs to be 18" X 84" not the 12" X 72" that's sold in the truck stops....
That's not in the "Green Book" either...
ODOT will also shut you down if the banners have holes, dirt, or grease on them....
That's their regs...and According to ODOT....Their regs supersede Any Federal reg....
It sounds like Bull sheyat.....
But I have been there before....pulled in at Ashland....I had to drop my trailer and run up to the Phoenix Pilot and buy two new banners to satisfy ODOT's requirements....
As you can see....The top banner is ODOT approved....the bottom works for every other state I run in.....
Notice this OR Apportioned Rig get's a "pass"....
That banner is the same size as my "illegal" banners.....

The point of the thread is that pulling over trucks strictly for reflective tape is just more of the government doing something to line their pockets and exert more control all in the name of safety. -
To each their own.
As far as the government getting involved, we have to live with it. Unfortunately, they make a rule and many will not comply. It gives states a reason to look and do for revenue.
It is sad we have to have the rules, but there are many stupid people out there. -
In America, we are not to be ignorant of the laws; but neither are we to be surprised by novel interpretations. We should be able to go about our business in a professional, courteous and compliant manner, but free from unwaranted fear of being in violation of obscure statutes. Keep the roads safe, keep the children safe, throw out the reckless bums... but don't call what we're seeing here anything but what it is:unconstitutional money-grubbing HARASSMENT.
-
Are we that stupid?
Perhaps Margret Sanger was right all along...We need to practice eugenics for stupid people because congress won't allow Darwin to work..... -
