First of all, I'm an International Technician. Ive seen about 6 roll through our shop thats going to a local transport company. So far they seem to be happier with the 2010 engine over the 2008. Only had 2 engine problems in 6 months (1 faulty EGRVP sensor and 1 transmission table programed wrong form factory.)

My company assigned me a 2009 Transtar with the maxx farce, (intentionally spelled that way). This truck had nothing but problems. From the cooling system, it blew 2 radiator hoses off because the press fit clamps couldn't handle the pressure. It would run so hot (yes it had plenty of coolant) that the fan would not shut off for 20-30 miles all the while sapping what little power it had. The lead mechanic at our headquarters terminal said to run it until it shuts off! Climbed a hill on the Ohio Turnpike, 178 mp EB, with a 30,000 lb load at 37 mph!

The regeneration system would shut the truck down and then take literally HOURS to regenerate finally allowing the truck to start again.

The cheap plastic electrical connections under the hood had to be zip tied on to keep them from falling off.

Up until last week this truck had been back to the dealer 4-5 times, twice for bad intercoolers, once for oil leak in the turbo and other crap usually cooling system related the other times.

It came back to the yard on a hook last Thursday, because it again, broke down during our city operation. When the afternoon shift mechanic started it to pull it into the shop it literally blew up, it shot a rod out the side of the engine!

My company bought 10 of these gems, 5 prostars and 5 transtars, and within the first 3 months of having them, they decided we weren't getting anymore. Now since we have had nothing but problems with all of them, they are going to trade them all in to get rid of them.
