Considering the work I'm planning to do, the International TranStar "8600" with the extended cab would be perfect for me. I already have it "spec'd out" in my head.
475hp MaxxForce 13, 13spd trans, 3.90 gears. Blah Blah Blah...

I love the huge windshield, the small sloped hood, the lay-out/placement of the dash/gauges, the windshield wiper switch on the turn signal switch, the width of the passenger compartment, plus many other things. Basicly, it's very "car-like." A very small daycab with that "26 inch DOT-legal sleeper" is just what I'll need just in case I run out of hours. But I plan to sleep in my own bed 99.9% of the time.
The only engine available for that model is the MaxxForce.
At my current job, I drove a 2005 International 8600 daycab for about a year and fell in love with it. However, I HATED that pig of a motor that was in it. The 425hp Cummins ISM. It ran strong when it was running right, but the thing ate up turbo's and EGR valves. Both were changed, TWICE, in the year I drove the truck. The guys at Ryder were pissed.

Most MaxxForce engines on the road today (I'll bet) are in either Ryder or Penske trucks, or in company fleets with company drivers. In either case, the engines get the ##### beat out of them. No love. Poor service/oil change intervals. No morning warm-ups. Etc...

I wonder how the MaxxForce would run if someone treated it like "their baby?"

I feel sorry for the poor fellow who will have to work on that truck. The engine is 3/4 covered by the cab. That engine is hard enough to work on in a ProStar let alone ebing in a TranStar.

theres nothing easy to do on a 8600 series. i cringe everytime i have to work on one
