Hi- need some advice!!
Got my CDL in early March, '07. Even though I should have known better after reading posts in the Forum, I went with Werner, mainly because they had a terminal close to my home.
After orientation, I was assigned a Trainer. During our 'get acquainted conversation', I asked how long he had been a trainer."you're my first student",he told me. I should have gotten off the truck right then.
A little later I casually asked how long he had been driving."Oh about 10 months now". Again I should have bailed right then.
Anyway after approx. 16 days, I had about 90 hours behind the wheel. All on open, little or no traffic, interstates, generally at night.
We woke up one morning and the Trainer tells me to get behind the wheel.
"wait a second-you want me to drive into downtown Detroit at rush hour, with my experience?" "Well you have to learn sometime" I was told.
Making a long story shorter, I managed to knock down a streetlight with the very end of my trailer-cops, pictures, the whole 9 yards except no ticket for me. Then I decided to get a new trainer.
At the terminal, waiting for the new Trainer, I had to report to the Safety committee. After explaining exactly what happened, Safety decided that I would need to do an additional 30 hours of training plus some CBT courses.
I had no problem with that, personally I felt that the training time I had already had could have been spent on a golf course and I would have learned as much!
Got the new Trainer and had a great experience. Learned a lot, really grew as a driver and felt like I was on my way to being a Pro.
After 6 weeks, when I reached the standard 275 hour driving threshold, I got a message to report to Safety.
As soon as he could, my driver got me to the terminal. I reported to Safety and was told with no ceremony that because of my accident I was being terminated. No discussion, no reason that 6 weeks ago it was only a 30 hour problem, just You're gone.
Now what to do? I've applied at a couple other carriers and have pretty much been told that 'because of your accident and being terminated from your last employer' that they didn't want me.
Is there a good way to present what happened or a company that would take into account the full circumstances of what happened?
I'd really appreciate any advice.
Thanks!!!
should have believed what I read!!!!!!!
Now What do I do?

Might also try applying at PAM. Not the greatest company to work for but better than nothing. I know when your working there if you get no ticket they do not count the accident against you.

Sorry to hear you had such a p*** poor experience to start.
But there is hope.Although you've made it difficult for me to point you in any one directon, since I do not know where you are located.
You'll need to really work hard at finding a job. Especially if you want to go to work for a "large" company. But, there are those who will hire you with additional training.
You can also refine your search to include local companies with 200 or fewer trucks. If the accident is not on your DL's. They will have little problem with hiring you. As it will not affect their insurance cost. They may want you to "train" in some areas, before hiring you full time though.
DO NOT limit yourself to "Nationally" recognized companies. Doing so will only limit your ability to find a decent job, with a decent company.
Sadly, I had a student who went through the same thing you are going through. He found a good job. His only "crime", he bumped another trailer in a drop yard.
