my favorite example, look at automobiles, cigar lighters were options, then it became cigarrette lighters, but how many vehicles do we see today that do not have one installed?
my everyday pickup was ordered without a lighter, & the ashtray has never been used. but my friends hate riding with me, they cant charge their plug in items, like cell phones, game, mp3 player, nor a GPS. one friend refuses to ride with me because of this.
what once was an option is now considered a normal convience item for most people

Well, they used to be standard. A lot of new cars don't come with them at all. Which, like you said, with all the electronics out now it's an inconvenience not to have one.
I don't buy the whole deicing materials thing. If they had a way to keep cars ice free, especially the windows, they'd have marketed it long ago and people would have been all over it. I hate cleaning my windshield off. -
well this CAN BE a good thing, no one riding with you.....
as for the "cigarette lighter receptacle", if someone wanted to, they can buy a generic multi mount/fit one and install it.....ain't that difficult, and since you haven't got one, i guess you subscribe to my theory...you like riding alone....!!!

Also a post about this in Weather reports and motor carrier qestions--seems they should all be combined--good points all of these!

Just dome the roof of the trailer a little bit by lowering the height of the sides of the trailer, allowing the roof to be slightly domed since most of the time loads don't go to the ceiling. Then add a teflon coating when manufactured,so nothing will stick to the roof surface.

Interesting idea! Hit any of the trailer manufacturers with this one yet? It actually makes good sense.Tatersalad said: ↑Just dome the roof of the trailer a little bit by lowering the height of the sides of the trailer, allowing the roof to be slightly domed since most of the time loads don't go to the ceiling. Then add a teflon coating when manufactured,so nothing will stick to the roof surface.Click to expand...

Just to clear this up PA did pass this law:http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/pa_driversmanual/chapter_5.pdfkazak88 said: ↑I know several years ago PA tried to pass a similar law about snow and ice removal after a 4 wheel driver was implaled and killed by a sheet of ice that flew off the top of a trailer. The trucking lobbiest however were able to get it defeated.
It seems that something as simple as an overhead scraper followed by a de-icing solution, similar to the ones airlines use, could be installed at terminals and TS's and trucks could simply drive under it to scrape off the trailer roof. The scraping arm could be adjustable to match the varying heights of trailers.
That being said, CT and any state that enacts a similar should have some kind of snow removal devices at the port of entry stations so the problem can be dealt with as soon as the trucks enter their state.
I know the reason the measure falled in PA was because it would cause a greater danger to truckers to have to climb on their trailers to clear snow than the potential danger it would pose to motorist avoiding flying ice. A network of snow/ice removal systems would have to put in place to make the new law effective. The state had no intention to take on the costs and the private sector saw no profit in building a network so the bill failed.Click to expand...
